Disappointing release October 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After the amazingly strong "Freedom's Road" I was very excited about this new CD. I have to say it's one of his weakest releases in a VERY LONG TIME. The lyrics are strong, but there are very few memorable songs on this disk. Usually, there are only 1 or 2 below par songs on a Mellencamp release, this one only has a few good ones. This is a depressing and somewhat boring release. I have around 10-11 of his CD's and I usually like it when he stretches and does something different (Mr. Happy go Lucky, Cuttin' Heads), but this is just average folk music.
john mellencamp - great, as usual September 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
john continues to get more introspective with age - this is not an album to rock and roll to - it's an album to absorb
HAPPY, album...............( Ya right !! ) September 24, 2008 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
As GRANDMA said......." IF you have nothing good to say ( sing ), then don't say (sing) anything at all ". I wish all singers would remember that. They would sell more records. HAPPY,FUN,... SONGS are what the coustomers pay for. I really don't want DEPRESSING music. How can they charge people for this album. Mellencamp used to be my favorite singer, NOT POLITICS,.
Great mid life wisdom September 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This new CD has a raw feel like Rough HarvestRough Harvest but with new material. It deals with love still being wonderful and thinking about the idea that there are fewer days ahead than behind.
Best Album Since The Lonesome Jubilee September 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
John Mellancamp...I have been regularly disappointed since the great Scarecrow and Lonesome Jubilee Albums which were excellent....since hit and miss albums.
Until now...Life Death Love and Freedom....Excellent!!! 5 stars.
This is his best album and I am certain you will agree with me...GO BUY IT NOW!
It comes with a DVD extra disc of DVD-A because everyone needs a CD for the car and a DVD-A for the house.
Highly recommended. More like a Dylan or Springsteen Album...not over produced but excellent lyrics and melodies.
