A weak enigma single. June 19, 2006 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
In my opinion this is one of the weakest Enigma single that Michael Cretu has released. I am a big Enigma fan and have imported rare/limited editions of his music from Europe. The fact is that this track was intended to be a promo for the German middleweight boxer Felix Sturm and was only released in Germany. The track was written for him to walk into the ring to for a championship fight.
The track opens with the same church organs that opens for the old single 'The Rivers of Belief'. The electric guitars and slow heavy beats that take over simply do not work together on an enigma single. There is nothing enigmatic about this single compared to other releases.
Andru Donalds provides the vocals but unfortunately his voice seems strained as if he is shouting at times.
The video is included on this CD but certainly is not characteristic of an Enigma video. It is purely a montage of Felix Sturm boxing, training and looking at the camera and nothing more.
As a promotional song for a boxer yes the song works. As for being the next step in the evolving sound of Enigma I'm afraid the track fails. This item will probably appeal to collectors of Enigma music due to its Germany only release.
ENIGMAS are never easy to understand June 5, 2006 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
Gotta say i was more than a little disheartened by all the harsh reviews surrounding this single. However, it is hard for fake ENIGMA fans to understand just how unique and original every CD is, in it's own right.
To listen to one track and say it sucks is like buying a 2000 piece jigsaw puzzle, then look at one piece and say this puzzle is a waste. You must put all the pieces together to see what the picture is meant to be. Any true fan knows that ENIGMA is an experience in which all the music must be listened to together to get the true affect.
I must admit that every CD has taken me a little time to get used to, and to understand where it is trying to go. This CD is no different. Its got an interesting organ beginning from something you might envision while walking into a haunted house, and then leads into a funky unexpected beat that takes you in a direction you couldn't possibly see coming (in other words an enigma).
The only flaw is that its kinda short leaving you wanting more. Don't be surprised to hear this track played soon at clubs and raves (possibly with master mixes added, to help improve the brief nature of the track). So in all, id say if you are a true fan, check it out (its clearly a new direction, and if you know ENIGMA you'd expect nothing less).
If you are looking for the old traditional patterns of Gregorian Chants (you probably wont care for it), and I'm sorry to say its time to stop living in the past and open your mind to new experiences, and music. And maybe only then will you be able to unlock the ENIGMA.
is the real enigma solved? May 6, 2006 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
wow!!!Enigma is going worse in every new release after "The screen behind the mirrow" It's simple, there"s not enigma anymore... Im a fan of the old project, the real mystic enigma. I got all cds and every single from the begining... Sorry M.Cretu, but this is crap...
I want more April 28, 2006 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I had low expectations for this single, but I was very surprised. Having a very complete collection of Enigma's singles, I'd put this near the top. Although simple in it's architecture, it leaves you breathlessly awaiting the full album promised by year's end. Those that disapprove of this new material are probably only familiar with Cretu's work as Enigma, but he's been around many years before that entity and he has always had a unique sound. His releases starting with Voyageur (IMO) are returning to his earlier sound; frankly I love the path he's taking.
A Little Disappointing.... April 17, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was expecting more from this single, and so I am disappointed in the overall package. I like that Enigma takes chances and tries new things, but at the end of this song, I just feel empty, like so much more could have been done with it, especially with the background choir-type voices and beat. I'll still listen to it, but it is by far not on my list of greatest Enigma music.
