Simeon Bellison CD June 18, 2008 I just received a copy of the Bellison CD from Michele Zukovsky, one of the artists featured. Simeon Bellison, principal clarinetist in the New York Philharmonic for many years, was a wonderful performer, arranger and teacher. My clarinet teacher, Kalman Bloch, principal clarinet in the Los Angeles Philharmonc for 43 years, studied with Bellison. He's in his mid-90s now, but is still playing. In fact we perform together in a clarinet quartet frequently. His daughter, Michele, has been principal clarinet in the LA Phil for 46 years! Quite a dynasty!
The CD contains excellent performances of musical gems, all arranged by Bellison. None of the material, I believe, is available elsewhere. Two of the tracks are by Bellison himself, followed by several recording of Kalman Bloch, then some lovely recordings by Michele, with guitar, piano and flute, and ending with an arrangement for clarinet choir of Bach's Air On the G String.
I highly recommend this CD, not only to clarinetists, but to all lovers of classical music. This is a "not to be missed" collection.
