Album Description Reissue of the 1969 album Pretties for You which was the first album by Alice Cooper. At this time, the name Alice Cooper referred to the band as well as its lead singer. The music has a psychedelic flavor to it. The group had yet to develop the more concise hard rock sound that they would become known for. The song "Reflected", Alice Cooper's first single, was later rewritten as "Elected" (which featured on their 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies).
Album Details Before the Monsters, Before the Costumes, Before the Glam, Vincent Furnier and his Mates Released their Debut Album on Frank Zappa's Bizarre Label and it Remains a Favorite of the Band's Aficionados for It's Raw Energy and Psychedelic Leanings.

A good record October 30, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't own any other Alice Cooper records except this one. I like it because it's so different from his others. It's good psychedelic rock album--that's all. Thanks.

Alice Cooper-Pretties For You ***
Only the 1960's could have produced something this over the top. Think early Pink Floyd with a shot of The Stooges and just a dash of the first Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention album, Freak Out! and you have the original Alice Cooper groups Pretties For You.
While not a bad album by any shot it doesn't hold up as well as many of the bands other albums. Of Course Killer,Love It to Death, and even the second album Easy Action are better. But Pretties For You is better than almost everything solo Alice Cooper ever released after 1980, with a few exceptions.
Buxton and Bruce play the hell out of their Gibson's here and while it isn't the most concise playing ever it gets the job done. Alice sings in his REAL voice here which is nice. What is really cool about the album is that it feels more like a progressive rock record rather than a hard rock album, with odd time signatures and on the dime changes it is really different than the rest of their material.
When you listen to Pretties For You it is really easy to understand why Frank Zappa would sign the original group to his Bizarre/Straight record label. Nice debut for a band that had nothing on paper.
Strange October 5, 2008 This is a very strange album. Not very Alice Cooperesque. This sounds like Satanic Beatles On Acid. But for any Alice Cooper fan like me, this is a must have. If you are new to Alice, I'de Suggest "Welcome To My Nightmare", "School's Out" and his three latest albums are great.
Stop Your Sobbing September 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is for the pathetic losers who have rated this low. Now use your best whining voice and repeat after me, "It doesn't sound like Love it to Death/Killer/etcetera......". No kidding!! FZ signed and produced these guys after finding they "could empty a room in twenty seconds". This was the guy who put "Flower Power sucks" (and got it deleted by MGM) on an album. This is a band who was totally into shock value, who wanted some dips like the one and two star wonders here to walk in expecting Joni Mitchell and being scarred for life. This is the audio equivalent to "Pink Flamingos". This ain't 'Hairspray' with John Travolta nor Ricki Lake. This is Divine as the nastiest person alive with Edie the Egg Lady and the whole crew. Love THIS to Death!!!!!!!!!!!
Uh...Weirdest Album Ever? September 21, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Wow...what to say about this "album"? The original Alice Cooper album, the first album of an amazing rock band...doesn't sound much like themselves. There are brief moments when the future Alice Cooper sound can be heard, but they are scattered widely across the tracks. This album actually sounds like a cross between The Beatles, Frank Zappa, and Pink Floyd? I'm not sure exactly what it sounds like, I'll say this, nothing else I've ever heard sounds like it. It's got so many tempo and style changes it's impossible to keep up with. It seems like every 20 seconds you're hearing a different song, almost like each song has 5 smaller songs inside of it (reminds me of picture in picture on a Magnavox television or somethin'.) I do enjoy Reflected (mildly) and 10 Minutes Before The Worm is tolerable...as for the rest of it...well...it's WEIRD! Actually I take that back, the last track isn't so bad, but still...WEIRD! This probably gets my vote for the strangest sounding album of all time, and I've heard some weird ones. I'd advise you to listen to the samples (which in some cases is half the song on this album) and see what you think...I'm not sure I could actually recommend this album to anyone that still has working ears. Nonetheless, it's the beginning of a legendary band and even the great ones had to start somewhere.
