Album Description Bode now releases her MAXJAZZ debut, Don't Take Your Time, titled for the memorable song she co-wrote. The CD is reflective of her broad range of musical tastes - three jazz standards, songs by Cy Coleman and Irving Berlin, an American traditional, a tune from Lennon & McCartney, one from Bob Dylan, another from Stevie Wonder and of course, her calling card, Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time", this time sung with backup vocalist, Jerry Barnes, who performs often with Roberta Flack. In addition, she sings "Junior and Julie", which calls to mind Helen Merrill and "You", which one could imagine Norah Jones performing. That is how versatile Bode is. On Don't Take Your Time, Bode communicates with some impressive musicians: Bruce Barth on piano and Fender Rhodes; Larry Grenadier on bass; Adam Rogers on electric and acoustic guitar; Steve Nelson on vibes and Montez Coleman on drums. Guests include Meg Okura on violin, Adam Maness on piano, Sydney Rodway on tenor saxophone and Jerry Barnes on background vocals. Produced by Barth, the CD is named for the folk and country-tinged song, which Bode arranged and wrote with Adam Maness.

Talented voice, talented band January 18, 2006 Your first listen will provoke the response "what a beautiful voice!" But Erin and her troupe weave such rhythmic maturity and sweetness that you can only conclude they are in love with music. To hear Erin in concert (a very recommended experience) is a treat through folk, jazz, blues as well as Paul Simon (one of her sources of inspiration). She so graces the presence of the St. Louis music scene that, were it up to us, we'd never let her venture beyond the three rivers. But it would be a crime to deprive everyone else of her talent.

Bode is a treasure. If you like Krall and Jones, you'll probably like Bode, maybe better. A lovely first effort, with a warm, honest, and engaging voice that ranges over a wide variety of material with panache. Some may not enjoy all the material equally -- I much prefered the "Tonite I'll Be Staying Here with You," "Time After Time," "You," and "Gee Baby" to the perhaps-a-little-precious "Junior and Julie" -- but if you listen to female vocalists, I expect you'll be putting Bode on a *lot*. As a bonus, "Don't Take Your Time" is a nice recording, which throws a good soundstage. As an added bonus, Bode is a warm and unassuming performer, quite disarming; make a point of seeing a show. Q: Why only 4 stars, then? A: Miles et al., "Cookin" is 5 stars. Big things on the way, I expect, and the present offering gives a lot of pleasure. Thx.
Effortless and accomplished July 22, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I first heard Erin's amazing voice about seven years ago, and was thrilled to find that her album-debut had been released. She has the most sincere and unforced voice I've ever heard, and the personality to match. There is so much warmth and feeling in her tone, and the title track is already one of my all-time favorite songs. If anyone deserves to be recognized, Erin does. Finally, Erin! I look forward to your next album!!!

Saw Erin Bode at the World Cafe Live in Philadelphia . . . beautiful voice . . . down to earth, very sweet in person . . . expect her to make it big. Soon.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL December 8, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was lucky enough to get my hands on Erin's first self-published album and was very excited to see that there was a new one. It's even better. I played it in the store I work in and customers ask me daily where to get this new cd.
Her voice is soothing or sad or exuberant, depending on the song. But, it's always absolutely beautiful. I hope there will be more and more from Erin Bode for a long time to come.
