When All My Hope Was Gone... December 28, 2007 ... along came Michael Franks and showed me the eye of storm: transported me on a melodic rainbow to places as distant as Brazil, Tahiti or the Nevada desert, in the blink of an eye. This and his other albums gave me shelter from the noise and confusion and opened up a whole vast dimension that I had almost forgotten about- the secret, serene place between the screams; a place that takes you away from the mess of daily life and puts things into their proper perspective. This music gave me refuge when nothing made sense. I owe him and his team of fine musicians nearly my life. Yes. No exageration. This is music that meditates the listener who knows how to listen.
Brilliant & Beautiful October 31, 2007 Brilliant songwriting, beautiful arrangements, great session players, Franks' cool vocals... this is jazz/pop of the highest order. Highly recommended.
THE JOY OF SUCH SOUND AND LAUGHTER! July 10, 2006 0 out of 9 found this review helpful
If there are any objections sustained on the standing up for the truth guidelines of Funk law and order, please be the first to fulfill the ignominy of such. Chief Sun Star Ali hears and feels the very essence of the far east coast connection, and some reel reel Mean Mugging. Prepare once again the sound system, for the "Deeper Prophecy is Clear!" Flick the lights, for the 'Last Dance' is near. In it's day this album must not be overlooked!
So Nice For A Day of Doing Nothing May 19, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great CD to listen to while practicing the lost art of doing absolutely nothing. Just imagine yourself lying on a hammock with your eyes closed and a gentle breeze blowing over your skin. You're not asleep...you are awake...but you've decided that this is the day you're just going to be a human being rather than a human doing.
Even if you do decide to do something, like maybe switching posistions in the hammock or pouring yourself a glass of lime-ade, this is the music to listen to. Its slow but easy paced rythyms will move you into a place where you know and feel that life really is too short to be frantic and high strung.
I love this CD. It's great music to just "be" with...like a lover or a friend or maybe a friend who is a lover. I hope you buy this CD as well as a hammock built for two.
Enjoy this life, friends, enjoy!

In 1977, I heard "The Lady wants to know" and was blown away! Later, I went on to buy the album and was floored! The standout tracks for me are, of course, "The Lady wants to know" and "I really hope it's you." Don't get me wrong, the whole album is very, very good. We are talking about someone who was financing his graduate education by writing (and singing) songs (he has his PHD in songwriting). He is a definite talent...go Michael Franks...Five Stars!
