Album Description
". . . in a place where Billie Holiday meets Tom Waits . . . has moments that recall pieces of Nina Simone, early Rickie Lee Jones, and even the sophistication of Cole Porter. " - Business Week Although there are elements of jazz, blues and folk in her music, it is simultaneously all of those things and none of them. Her engaging songs and sultry controlled vocals possess a timeless quality that places them in the tradition of the great female vocalists on Verve, whose work have also not been confined to any one genre or style

love it love it January 8, 2009 I love this CD. I listen to it over and over again. What a voice!
Stars Within My Eyes December 27, 2008 Verve Forecast re-released Melody Gardot's "Worrisome Heart." Its slow jazz arrangements and her lovely voice give the album coherence like the first Norah Jones CD Come Away with Me. The title track smokes with a late night, last call feel with Dave Posmontier's lovely piano and Ron Kerber's silky sax, "I would be lucky to find me a man who could love me the way I am with this here worrisome heart." "Some Lessons" seems like a simple track, but oozes with the bittersweet mixture of joy & pain, "Some lessons we learn the hard way; Some lessons don't come easily & that's the price we have to pay." "One Day" with Gardot's guitar and Stan Slotter's trumpet sounds like a renegade Edith Piaf track, beautiful for its austere arrangement, "One day you will arise to see the stars within my eyes; One day you will be mine." Comparisons to Laura Nyro come from the stark and searing vocals on "Love Me Like a River Does" that make it a classic track, beautiful and smoky. "Goodnite" has a trill in the melody that helps the set conclude with a sense of melancholy lightheartedness. Gardot's "Worrisome Heart" CD is a delightful treasure. Enjoy!

Melodie Gardot is simply extraordinary. How a person as young as she can sing with such depth and grit is just beyond me. Kudos to her for her perseverance and astonishing talent. Look out; she is going to take the jazz world by storm!
Goosebumps! November 26, 2008 All I need say about this album is, if you love a soothing, sultry voice and are looking for something a little bit different and unpredictable, this is the album for you. My two top tracks are the title track and 'Love me like a river does', which never fails to get those goosebumps going.
