Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Got you on my mind is the collaboration between chanteuse Madeleine Peyroux and harmonica virtuoso/ guitarist William Galison, with whom she has toured extensively in recent years. On Ms. Peyroux's first recording since Deamland, Madeleine and William cover a wide variety of tunes, from a Josephine Baker classic through tunes made famous by Willy Dixon, Stevie Wonder and John Lennon, as well as three delightful original compositions. The accompanying musicians are stars in their own right, including Bob Dylan's bassist Tony Garnier and Saturday Night Live's drummer Shawn Pelton, and there is a delightful cameo by none other than Carly Simon. To many of Madeleine's fans, Got You On My Mind represents her exquisite singing at its most natural and unconstrained -- in an informal, musical context close to her roots and to her heart. What comes across most strongly from this CD however, is the amazing musical chemistry between these two extraordinary artists.

1 out of 5 stars The TRUTH - She sounds great, songs not arranged well, he is not so good   September 21, 2008

Well it is just like follywood and the record industry to piggy back someone with talent. I don't know this guy. I am sure he is nice, but obviously, he should not be singing on a recorded line. I am not being mean, just honest. He holds key but that's about it. This is not opinion, just fact. The arrangements here are not very good. She sounds great but the cheesy arrangements destroy any chance to salvage more than one or two of these - songs? I can only think that she was forced to do this, or maybe as a favor. She deserves better.

This is the best album by Madeleine Peyroux by far! It is produced really well. The sound is gorgeous! Awesome French-sounding instruments!

I have all of Madeleine Peyroux's albums. I love her singing style. Her voice soothes. But I like this one the least. Maybe I'll get used to it.

5 out of 5 stars Sad story, but great album..........   August 28, 2007

The collaberation between Madeleine Peyroux was both professional and personal; alas, the personal side went bad. Madeleine has an all too well known history of personal problems; Galison told the press some things that decency would have demanded he keep quiet...the stage is public; the bed should be private. I don't know if the legal problems have been settled; this album was unavailable for awhile, but I've seen it in stores recently. As to the professional side of their relationship......

.....this is one of the finest jazz records I've ever heard. One of the songs ["Heaven to Me"] got reused on "Careless Love", so that may be the problem. Madeline's voice is perfect for this music...the title cut is wonderful, and so is the rest. Once again, English and French, with equal skill, and clarity. Galison is as great a harmonica player as you will ever hear, and his playing meshes perfectly with Madeline's voice. Also, Galison is fantastic on the guitar, and not half bad on vocal. Further, there's a [tiny] cameo for Carly Simon on "Shoulda Known"...

If you like great jazz, grab this. You'll love it, but you'll also be sorry that there won't be any more recordings from a great partnership.

I love Madeleine Peyroux and now have all her CD's. Her voice blends perfectly with William Galison's playing. I highly recommend this selection.
