Deliciously Decadent March 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've always loved the cabaret style. This album captures the decadence, the bite, and the morbid romance of pre-World War II cabaret in a marvelous way. Some tracks, of course, are better than others. Jill Tracy's "Let's Spend an Evil Night Together" stands out as representative of the album's concept. Luscious, seductive vocals, taunting lyrics, and a fascination with the darker side of entertainment, all combine to serve up a truly delectable confection. Is that a hint of bitter almond in the meringue? I'll be picking up albums by several of these artists in the near future.
A marvelous collection of dark smiles May 13, 2007 I had this one in my CD player on repeat for quite a while. All catchy tunes make me believe that each and every one of these bands deserves their own CD in my collection. If you're new to the cabaret punk scene or just miss that good old fashioned 'get up and move' upbeat spirit, put your sad clown face on because cabaret punk puts a new twist on the old fashioned beat. I'd say it's come full circle with today's musical styles of punk, emo, and goth.
Excellent Peer into Punk Cabaret March 22, 2007 If you like any of the artists on the CD or are interested in the general genre of "Punk Cabaret," this CD provides a wonderful mix of artists and their collaborative efforts that spans the dark and dismal to the whimsical side of the spectrum. Each of the artists provides a unique flavor to the CD and the collaborations of the artists are also quite distinct from the stylings of each individual.
Recommended for fans of the cabaret genre or the curious. Excellent price, excellent mix... excellent quality.
Not Your Ordinary Music Cd! November 23, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you want to experience something different - this is it! It's cabaret music with a slightly modern twist. You don't have to like dark, gothic music to appreciate this cd. I enjoyed all the songs except for track 9. Get it! Try something different! At this price, what have you got to lose?
Good Introduction to an Interesting Genere May 21, 2006 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Goth meets Cabaret, or rather Gothic music influenced by Cabaret. Thats the best way to describe this wonderful little release by Projekt. The eleven tracks here provide an introduction to the "dark cabaret" scene, and do so quite well. The first song, Coin-Operated Boy by the Dresden Dolls, is a great start, and the CD continues onward to devious Evil Night Together by Jill Tracy (which sets up a wonderful film noir mood) and on to the darker, electronic dance number Cabaret Fortune Teller by Audra, to a remix of Knock Three Times on My Coffin by Projekt veterans Black Tape for a Blue Girl. Along the way numerous other bands are covered.
Sam Rosenthal's side project Revue Noir makes their debut on this CD, with husky feminine vocals provided by Nicki Jaine, who also has a solo song (Pretty Faces) on the CD as well. Personally, I LOVED Revue Noir and find Nicki Jaine's voice to be quite alluring, but I also know some BTfaBG fans who dislike her vocals so you've been warned. But all in all, I think anyone with a task for the dark should check out this CD. At the very least, its a cheap and decent introduction to a whole new style, and thats always a good thing.
