tighten up November 6, 2006 i personaly don't own this box set. however, i do have the first two volumes of the tighten up series. I gotta say probably some best collections of reggae to ever come out. There are alot of songs in this box set from the frist two volumes..."blood n fire"-niney the observer "barb wire"-norma dean "fatti fattie"-derrick morgan....plus lots lost more.I highly reccomend this to any fan of mid to late 60's ska and reggae truly great stuff
A fun little compilation June 23, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was the first Trojan box set I bought, and with 50 tracks of great reggae, it didn't disappoint. The box draws songs from eight volumes of "Tighten Up" budget compilations Trojan released between '69-'73 for the burgeoning UK market. Selections range from the well known ("Duppy Conqueror", "Johnny Too Bad") to interesting covers ("Shaft", "Kansas City") to grooving instrumentals ("Live Injection", "The Man from Carolina"). All in all a great sampling, and at this price hard to pass up.
Essential reggae August 22, 2002 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is where it started - Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer laying down fundamental tracks. Every song is excellent, with particular standouts including "Soul Shakedown Party", "Adam and Eve", and "This Train". Buy this and the excellent CD 'African Herbsman' for an education in original reggae.
One of the best of the series April 20, 2002 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I own the Trojan "Rocksteady" Box Set which I personally consider a bit lackluster. I also have the "Club Reggae" Box Set which I give a hearty thumbs up to. But the "Tighten Up" Box Set is my favorite so far. You dig Reggae from the late 60's early 70's? "Tighten Up" fits the bill nicely. My only wish would be that some more detailed liner notes were included. Plus the original album cover art for the series was incredible but unfortunately not found with this re-issue package. But the most important ingredients are, of course, good music at a reasonable price, and with "Tighten Up" you get both.
