Amazon.com Feed your head. This is the basic premise that undergirds various Brainwave packages (Brainwave Suite, Brainwave Symphony) that have been assembled by acoustic theorist Jeffrey Thompson. Thompson takes things audible (nature sounds and average electronic music on Suite; orchestral music on Symphony) and implants in them subsonic pulses and frequencies (but not subliminal messages, we're told) that allegedly attune the brain to prescribed, desirable states: theta waves for "uplifting emotion"; alpha waves for an "alert, relaxed mind"; and so on. For this set, Thompson offers four hour-long discs, each of which is divided into two sections. The first involves guided imagery that's delivered in a strange, disembodied voice by Owen Morrison. The second is a windswept, atmospheric drone of electronics that at times effectively invites your mind to float away on an astral voyage. This is essentially what is heard on the first half, only it's cluttered by Morrison's persistent and--to the uninitiated ear--annoying chatter. "Feel the exquisite melody of joy rippling through every cell," he tells us. It's a little tough when his oddly fuzzed-up sci-fi voice sometimes goes on and on as if he's delivering baseball play-by-play from another dimension. That's a pity, because the latter halves offer blissful, above-average states of motionlessness. (Of course, for superb space-walk music, investigate Jonn Serrie.) --Terry Wood

The best brainwave entrainment program October 1, 2007 I have several of Dr. Thompson's CD programs, and this is BY FAR the best. These CDs are perfect for improving creativity, inner peace, mood, focus, stress levels and relaxation. Though I typically prefer instrumental brainwave entrainment CDs, the power of the spoken words and the way they are presented in this collection seem to be far more effective. These CDs have produced fantastic results in my life.
Don't Miss the Boat! January 20, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I believe some of the previous reviewers have missed the boat in understanding these CD's. They are for the purpose of self-hypnosis. That "irritating patter" of voice is designed to implant positive concepts deep in the core of your subconscious to assist you in life. But you have to be able to "let go" in order for it to work. If all you hear is the patter, you're not allowing it to work. If you want relaxation and rejuvenation, Thompson's Brainwave Suite is excellent. But if you want to make changes in your life, Brainwave Journey can really help. Since I've been listening to Dr. Thompson's works, I am no longer stressed out and angry in traffic; I'm more effective at work and calmer at home.
BUY IT! March 17, 2002 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
It is a journey that will be very difficult to forget.Even if you never tried meditation before listen to this. All you have to do is close your eyes and relax very soon you are going to find yourself in a world of sounds combined with colorfull pictures. I believe it is worthy to eperience it.
Brainwave Journey Dr. Jeffrey Thompson February 8, 2002 UNREAL! This was my first REAL introduction to this form of relaxation. Although I didn't find tapes 1,3 & 4 to be as enjoyable as Cassette 2 (Journey of the Mind) I lay on the floor with my eyes closed and experienced euphoria like I have never thought possible thru music. If anyone had walked in they would have thought I was nuts, lying there with a big happy cheesy grin, revelling in my latest musical DISCOVERY BRAVO BRAVO! We could all use a 30 minute relaxation breather EVERY DAY! Loved it!
Buy Brainwave Suite instead of this. November 4, 2001 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
As an owner of Thompson's Brainwave Suite, I am quite disappointed in Brainwave Journey. The music and sounds are outstanding, but the voice track is annoying and distracting. The voice is a strange, electronic babble. This is unfortunate, and unnessary. The music could stand alone to inspire your mind to travel into a relaxed, positive mental journey. My frustration grew intense after a couple of months that I gave away this box set, and have since replaced it with some wonderful collections by Hearts of Space.
