WOW August 6, 2008 I'd forgotten why Paul Revere and the Raiders were my favorite group, way back when I was a teenager in the 60's. I had this album then, and loved it, this CD sounds just as fresh as I remember. Great group,Fantastic CD.
Great collection of songs August 4, 2008 This Paul Revere and The Raiders Greatest Hits CD has a great selection of their music. Listening to the CD brings back great memories. The early group of The Raiders consisting of Mark, Paul, Fang, Drake & Smitty were the best. I thoroughly enjoy listening to this CD.

ESSENTIAL ALBUM!!! If you're not familiar with the early career of the Raiders then you should check this one out. They were a hard rockin' group at this stage of their career before Mark Lindsay, basically, took over the whole show. These weren't all hits, but the addition of the bonus tracks makes this an even better deal. The original release of this album went to #9 in 1967. In my mind this is a killer representation of the early Raiders. There are some compilations out there that are more comprehensive, the Australian release Kicks: The Anthology being the best one, but this album was mostly gritty rock.
This album has the hits "Steppin' Out" (#46) but a better song than the chart position indicates, "Hungry" (#6), "Just Like Me" (#11) later recorded by Pat Benatar, "Kicks" (#4) a very good anti-drug song, "The Great Airplane Strike" (#20), "Good Thing" (#4) & "Ups and Downs" (#24). The album also included some great album tracks; "Louie, Louie" which never actually charted for them but some claim that they recorded before the Kingsmen did, also Lindsay's vocal on this track is incredible! "Louie, Go Home" which they wrote as a kind of sequel to "Louie, Louie" that has a middle that's reminiscent of Indian raga music. "melody For an Unknown Girl" is included, it has a spoken intro & outro by Lindsay with an alluring saxophone solo by him. "Legend of Paul Revere" is the last song on the original compilation &, by rights, shouldn't have been included.
Columbia/Legacy has reissued the original with four bonus tracks. They are "Action" the theme song to one of their tv shows, "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" which predates the Monkees version but not a hit for the Raiders; listen to Mark Lindsay belt out the vocals on this one, "Him or Me - What's It Gonna Be?" which was a great song that peaked at #5. The last song is "Peace of Mind" which was a turning off the road for the group, it peaked at #42; this version is not the single, instead it's the version re-recorded for the album Goin' to Memphis.
Paul Revere & The Raiders - 'Greatest Hits' (Sony) July 5, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great fifteen track retrospect of this late '60's bubble gum rock ensemble. Although, I've never felt that was a fair description for Paul Revere & The Raiders. Always thought they were much better than other 'bubble gum' rock acts, like 1910 Fruitgum Company, Lovin' Spoonful, etc. Tunes here that's sure to bring back a lot of memories are "Louie Louie" (a cut that Paul Revere SWEARS that he actually wrote), "Louie-Go Home", "Stepping Out", the unmatchable "Kicks", "Good Thing", "Ups And Downs", "Action" and "Him Or Me-What's It Gonna Be?". Highly recommended.
