Great for Work!! September 28, 2008 This is a strange CD in that all you do is listen while you are working. Come to think of it, that is what I do with most CDs, but this is different. It really does help you focus all of your attention onto what you are doing in the present moment. Don't listen to it if you want to go to sleep!
Not bad, I guess. March 20, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
Just has a swooshing sound similar (but by no means identical) to the ocean... with some cricket chirping sounds as well... underlying "brain sync" stuff going on as well, I suppose, nearly inaudible to the conscious brain.
Not much there in terms of anything that really jumps out at you... but I play it at work instead of music because I tend to end up listening very closely to music, which detracts my attention from my work! With this as ambient background noise, I actually am more focused on my work... not supremely focused like the CD claims: I'm not sure I buy the whole "brain sync" garbage, but this CD is good in a very unflattering way: by NOT grabbing your attention, it allows you to focus your attention on whatever else you're doing rather than on the CD.
Aside: there's a warning on it that says not to listen prior to bed, which I think is just clever advertising: this does NOT put your brain into some sort of high gear - it ain't like drinking a cup of Highlander Grog. As stated, it's just ambient noise that won't detract your attention from whatever it should be focused on. In that sense this CD is pretty good, but not worth five stars... (even four is a stretch).
A must have! January 16, 2007 35 out of 35 found this review helpful
I'm a full time writer who's used High Focus off and on for at least ten years, probably more. It's absolutely wonderful. I put my headphones on and my productivity takes off. I've bought it on tape twice, and now on CD, and I can't recommend it enough. I've written at least ten published novels listening to it (among other music cds). It gives you that quiet bubble to work in that life usually denies you. Might not work for everyone, but it consistently works for me.
RELAX!!! June 26, 2004 40 out of 40 found this review helpful
I have several CD's and audio tapes from Kelly Howell's Brain Synch series. I use them for meditation and sometimes for backgroud ambient music. Some of the CD's in the series sound very similar, but "High Focus" is notably different from the others. It consists of 30 minutes of a single, continuous, low bass tone with a swirling, electronic "wind" noise blowing in the foreground. I know this doesn't sound like much, but the result is very effective. It makes for interesting meditation music, and is helpful background music for studying, working at the computer, or anything which requires high concentration. The CD contains two identical 30-minute tracks. The audio tape has the same 30-minute tack on each side. Along with "Deep Learning," this is one of my favotite enties in the Brain Synch series.
very interesting! April 6, 2000 58 out of 61 found this review helpful
The whole concept of Kelly Howell's series is based on a lot of research that is very popular in the last few years. I use High Focus whenever I need utmost concentration prior to reading textbooks for medical school and to confirm recall after each session. Users should not be too comfortable (like be in bed) when they use the tapes coz sleep is a close possibility. The rhythm and the music in itself is very soothing and when I come out of each session, I get so much clarity and focus that I am ready to read just about anything!
