| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com George Winston has the unique ability to play bright, uplifting, yet stingingly melancholy piano, and Summer is one of the best examples of his fine work around. Somewhere between the ambient-style tone poems of Winter into Spring and the melodious charm of Autumn, Summer dances brightly, evoking images of relaxing under a tree or children playing in a field. Highlights are many and include Winston's "Lullaby," full of melody and lyrical tension; "Hummingbird," with its whirling repetitive structure, reflecting the vibrant dimension of nature during the summer season; and the fun, rambling "Corrina, Corrina." In short, this is another album of what Winston does best--underscoring the poetic moments of life through poignant, beautiful music. --Karen Karleski

A Summer Masterpiece June 10, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Summer by George Winston is another stellar effort from the excellent solo pianist. Though this CD can be greatly enjoyed at any time of the year, it is appropriate that, right now, at the beginning Summer this CD can be greatly enjoyed. The songs and sounds here are really outstanding.

It's very visual... January 28, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Summer by George Winston is one of those records that offer more than an aural experience. The music is beautiful, but even more it has the power to conjure up images and visions that reflect summery landscapes and very personal memories connected to the season. So in some sense the strengths of the album lie within the listener. In comparison to Winston's earlier and more present work, I think this is the one record in his catalogue that evoke the most personal feelings. And as in all of the seasonably themed albums, Winston is equally great at capturing the atmosphere of the particular season. It's reserved and sentimental at times but it's also warm and open.
Even though Winston explores many themes he still manages to keep the album at the right pace and mood throughout. This edition is blessed with the additional "Old friends" and is repacked in the same way as the anniversary editions.
Winston's Best! July 7, 2006 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I own every CD George Winston has recorded (and even his 'Seasons' concert video) and I've seen him in concert twice. I can say with certainty that this is his best work. 'Summer' truly captures the many moods and feelings of the season, from the fun and frivolity reflected in 'Living in the Country' and 'Corrina, Corrina' to the quite, reflective moments in pieces like 'Loreta and Desiree's Bouquet, Pt. 2' and 'Living Without You.' And every time I hear 'Early Morning Range', I want to find a cool, shady spot under a tree to relax and dream. This is Winston at his finest, and the Special Edition is the definitive edition of his masterpiece. 'December' may be his biggest seller, but 'Summer' is where it's at!
