Enigma, aka Michael Cretu, turns out more light electronic ambience on Voyageur, mixing in an occasional twist but sticking pretty close to his successful, easily digested formula. Since Enigma's massively popular debut MDMXC A.D., Cretu has moved toward a more New Age/adult contemporary sound, culminating with 2000's bland The Screen Behind The Mirror. As with that record, Voyageur's weakest moments happen when Cretu puts his mediocre vocals front and center on tracks like "Total Eclipse of the Moon." Better are more beat-oriented songs like "Boum-Boum" that concentrate on seedier, sexier material and stay away from Cretu's sappier instincts. While overall, Voyageur counts as an improvement over Mirror, Enigma still hasn't found a replacement for the Gregorian chants and whispery techno that made MDMXC A.D. such a groovy sensation. --Matthew Cooke

4 out of 5 stars No es tampoco lo que todos dicen   November 2, 2008
Si cierras los ojos y te olvidas de que esta firmado bajo el nombre de ENIGMA, lo podras disfrutar como lo he disfrutado yo. "Total eclipse of the moon", "Following the sun", "The piano" y "Voyageur" son excelentes. Las demas son muy buenas si tienes en cuenta de que es ambient pop

4 out of 5 stars Hmmmmm   February 15, 2008
My only real "un-favorite" Enigma album. Good for relaxation, but it seemed to me this was just a "well, we need to put out an album" sort of thing. I have mixed feelings about this album. It's the only one I don't listen to frequently, but it is Enigma.

I understand musicians want to break out of molds and try new sounds. With Enigma's other newer cds, it took me awhile to warm up to them but then I did and I love them now. Even though they tried new sounds, they still had those little Enigma signature marks within some of the music.

This one I'm finding hard to warm up to. Maybe eventually I will but I'm not feeling it at all. They're going way, way off from any kind of sound that made Enigma, Enigma and it's really turning me off. They use to have a mysterious quality to their music but now it's just a regular band sound. I think if it wasn't Enigma I might have liked it a little better but since I was hoping for something that resembled the music I absolutely loved and could let go and fantasize with-I was really let down and unfortunately, I got something completely and utterly different and I am really disappointed.
They don't even fit into the genre of New Age music anymore.
It bites.
Oh well.
If you're not looking for Enigma's signature sounds, even remotely, then this may be alright for you. If you are, forget it. It's not happening. Enigma has died.

1 out of 5 stars One of his worst   January 12, 2008

Enigma did a stellar debut with MCMXC a.D. and later CD's never could match that debut. This CD is quite bad because Michael Cretu sings on about 80% of the tracks, and singing is not his forte. With track #5 the text is "my heart goes boom boom boom, every time I think of you". Is he trying to be a teenage popstar? He is around 40-50 years old by now. I do not recommend this CD.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best...   December 2, 2007
I owned all of the previous Enigma CDs and have been a big fan since the beginning. I almost didn't buy this one based on the mixed reviews here at Amazon. I'm glad I decided to give it a change though. While Enigma's music has evolved, the haunting beats, the transcendental nature of their music and the emotions it evokes remains constant.

This albums fits nicely into my collection being different enough to justify another purchase of Enigma, but not so different that it loses that Enigma feel.
