The primordial unknown--or the modern urban dweller's impressions thereof--has long been a staple of New Age music. So it was only a matter of time before some studio whiz got the notion to take the translation process one step further and bring that atmosphere to the dance floor. It's definitely authentic--the creators studied and borrowed genuine chants from African tribes--but just as importantly, it's remarkably seductive. The chart-topping signature song, "Sweet Lullaby," is indicative of what's going on in the grooves of the other nine tracks; ambient house beats burble pastorally while "multi-culti" samples ebb and flow gracefully, even romantically, through the mix. -- David Sprague

Goodness, I bought this in the 70's, I think...no one had heard of them...

5 out of 5 stars Deep Forest   December 23, 2007
I purchased this CD in 1993 and have practically worn it out. The music is so diverse, captivating and styled all it's own I have enjoyed it for years. I just love the voices and listen closely to their language. Had a great time listening and hanging drapes from couch to couch dancing around with my brother. It's a great CD!

5 out of 5 stars I always have a copy!   September 22, 2007
I've listed & quickly sold this CD several times over the years, but unlike 99% of the music I sell, I keep a copy for myself. I no longer analyze why this "story" soothes me: as I drift off it turns into a dream. How cool is that!

Are you looking for ambient music with kickin' beats? Well look no more because "Deep Forest" is your answer! Deep Forest is a wildly exciting mixture of forest-like synths and soulful vocalizations. The prime players in Deep Forest are the Pygmies of the rainforests of Cameroun, Burundi and Senegal. Deep Forest was created by two musicologists who recorded all the vocal tracks. The added synths, bass and percussion are splendidly perplexing. And the harmonically beautiful vocals of these natives are simply soulful.

5 out of 5 stars A Delightful Sojurn   April 14, 2007
Deep Forest is a must for those who like music that is relaxing and enthralling. This music creates visual dreamscapes in the mind where you explore. More imaginative than typical "new age" stuff. Even Tom Servo and Crooow lampooned most new age stuff on a MST3K show. They said to make a New Age album one only has to get a Synthsizing Organ, hold some keys down for infinate and get a contract! Deep Forest goes far beyond that!

Taking aborigone African drumming and piping, refashioning it with synthesizers, it creates dreamscapes of forests and jungles that are peaceful and relaxing. The perfect escape from the sounds of the city in a busy workday!

Get this album and relax for a while
