Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Cuentos del mundo is a charming CD for children, featuring traditional stories from Spain, Mauritania, Japan, Korea, and England, narrated by Constantino Romero, with eight related songs written and performed by Chano Dominguez and Marina Albero (featuring vocals by their daughter, Serena, who was just three years old at the time of recording). Both Chano and Maria are well known for their musical performances in a variety of genres, but this is their first CD for children. The inspiration for Cuentos del mundo is described in the liner notes:

The world of fantasy always fascinated us since we were little, but many times we forget how much until children come into our lives. And then, they ask us Can you tell me a story? and then we search our memory for those stories which once excited us when told by mom, dad, uncles and grandparents...

Because, despite the great social and technological changes, a story told live, with all its shades of meaning, has not lost even a little of the magic that it used to have when, in old times, it was the only form of communication between villages, the oral tradition of learning handed down from generation to generation.

The stories chosen by Chano and Marina are representative of the most characteristic forms of traditional story telling. They feature narrative reversals, irony, talking animals, folk etymologies, and implied moral lessons. Such tales are sure to thrill and inspire a child s vivid imagination and sense of wonder.

Of course, singing simple lyrics is another aspect of traditional story telling that children love. Chano and Marina have composed eight bright, sparkling songs, with lyrics based on the stories. Children will want to sing along with Chano and Marina s three year old daughter Serena, who lends her sweet voice to all eight songs.

Chano Dominguez is a pianist who has achieved an unusual integration between the rhythms and languages of jazz and flamenco and is one of the most in-demand musicians on the Spanish music scene, regardless of musical genre. He has also made a name for himself in the U.S., with numerous CDs as leader, and several U.S. tours, including appearances with Wynton Marsalis as a guest at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Marina Albero was born in Barcelona and since her early childhood has been involved in the world of music, playing traditional and early music with the family band, Grallers de Banyoles-Estampida Medieval. She has also played professionally with Cuban musicians, is the leader of her own jazz trio, and continues to play traditional and early music.
