This CD is guaranteed to make you happy. April 13, 2005 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm listening to this CD right now - and I'm in a better mood than I can even describe - this music just makes you feel extremely happy and alive - and it soothes at the same time - what could be better than that? "Mambo Mongo" works its way up to electrifying, and "Ninos Del Mundo" is just a beautiful piece. I don't have any other Mongo Santamaria CD's, but I know I need to get some. The only thing I ever knew about him before getting this CD was that my Mom had his record "Watermelon Man" when I was a kid. This is classic, great Latin Jazz with a lot of elegance.
Masterpiece!!!! June 2, 1999 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I discovered the music of Mongo Santamaria in the mid-90's. Ever since I've been trying to get as many of his work as possible. My collection is quite extensive and, not surprisinly, everyday I'm more amazed by his work. I think that Mongo is a genius and this record, Mambo Mongo, is his masterpiece. This is a CD that I enjoyed from the very beginning to the very last second. Check out La Mogolla, my favorite song of all time(the intro is on my answering machine). It's a shame that Mongo is close to retiring(or retired) and will prevent us from enjoying more of his work. Mongo, Mucho Ache!!!!!!
