Album Description
Vocalist-songwriter-pianist Spencer Day is an artistic vagabond, a modern-day musical nomad. Born in Utah, raised in rural Arizona, currently living in Los Angeles with extended residencies in New York and San Francisco, Day has called many places home. Along the way, he has wandered amid the expansive and diverse landscape of American music, developing an artistic sensibility that borrows from numerous sources: jazz, musical theater, cabaret, soul, folk, traditional pop and contemporary pop are just the tip of the iceberg. Day uses intuition and improvisation as his primary tools to craft a sound that is traditional and familiar, yet fresh and innovative at the same time, creating a blend too subtle to parse into neatly defined categories. Vagabond, his new release and his first on Concord Jazz, cements his reputation as a balladeer for the new century whose creative voice is distilled from the best elements of the previous one.

Album Description
2009 debut album from the singer, songwriter and pianist. Vagabond is a refreshingly unique album cementing Spencer's reputation as a balladeer for the new century. Vagabond follows in the tradition of great albums by Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones and Peter Cincotti. Spencer has already built up a name for himself in recent years with high profile live performances including appearances at The Kennedy Center (Washington DC), the Monterey Jazz Festival and The Great American Music Hall (San Francisco). "Put him in the company of Rufus Wainwright, Nellie McKay and other young singer-songwriters who have open hearts and something new to say."-Time Out New York.

5 out of 5 stars Vagabond   September 7, 2010
C. Phelps (Pensacola, FL United States)
WOW! do I love this cd! Spencer's voice is like wrapping you in a warm blanket, so comforting. His voice is soft with a touch of New Orleans jazz lilt. His tunes have rhythm, tell great stories, and, most of all, ORIGINAL! Both my husband and I love every song on the cd. I sent a copy to my friend who is a Harry Connick fan and she fell in love with Spencer.

5 out of 5 stars Great songs!   August 25, 2010

I loved this CD and it has some of the best songwriting I've heard in a long while.

5 out of 5 stars Spencer Day- A Day Brightener   August 15, 2010
Lisa L. Selby (Santa Rosa, CA)
I have been playing this album nearly every day since I purchased it. The melodies are catchy. The lyrics thoughtful and poignant, espcially "Joe", "Vagabond" and "Weeping Willow". Each song sets its own mood. It is a thoughtful album with moody and upbeat songs. Spencer Day has a beautiful voice to go with the songs. I would highly recommend this album. It will put you in a mellow mood.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!   August 12, 2010

This CD is wonderful! You know how you buy a CD for a specific song and then are disappointed with the rest .....well that won't happen with this one ...I have my favorites - but they are all good! Would highly recommend it to anyone who likes Spencer Day ....

5 out of 5 stars Sexy Harry Connick Jr.!   August 4, 2010
M. Klueber (USA)
I do not usually do reviews, but I love this CD! I always browse CDs based on the cd cover(which surprisingly never steers me wrong!) and discovered Spencer Day. I've never heard of him before, but I'm glad I clicked on his CD! He is a cross between a sexy Harry Connick Jr. and John Legend. I absolutely love this album, and I know I will be listening to it for a while. If you like this album, you might also like "A Fine Frenzy's "One cell in the Sea" that's another great album with a similar vibe!
