Album Description According to some very basic laws of nature, when powerful forces come together, some form of energy is created - usually in large amounts. In music, the laws of interaction are no different. When keyboardist Bob James, bassist Nathan East, guitarist Larry Carlton and drummer Harvey Mason come together as Fourplay, the result is Energy. Energy grafts a variety of sounds - R&B, pop, African and more - to Fourplay's unwavering jazz foundations. In addition to vocals by East - a charter member since the band's inception in 1990 - the album also features a vocal track by Esperanza Spalding, the upright bassist, composer and vocalist.
Album Description 2008 album from this Jazz supergroup: Nathan East (vocals, bass guitar); Larry Carlton (guitars); Bob James (keyboards); Harvey Mason (drums). 10 tracks.

Its ok November 13, 2008 Really nothing too different from what they have done before....good dinner music but not as listenable as the fist three albums IMHO. Superb recording quality if you want to sit down and appreciate you HiFi. I still miss Lee Ritenour though - felt like he spiced up the music abit more (still think Larry is great though).
Fourplay rocks, ehh, jazzes! November 4, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Super SACD, great music, it seems they get better all the time (small dip: Journey). Larry Carltin tops his best playing ever, Nathan East is THE bass man every band could/should wish. Bob James, keyboardman extraordinaire and Harvey: pleasantly lazy drumplayer, every beat is the right beat. Ultralight is excellent guitarplaying: Wes Montgomery sounds now and then, but very much 21st century. Esperanza Spalding is a tempting singer, so, all in all, excellent CD. In short: Super SACD, for the sound is brilliant.

As always Fourplay does it again. You can never go wrong purchasing one of their CD's.
FOURPLAY excellence! November 1, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm pretty sure I have most, if not all of FOURPLAY's recordings. ENERGY is as good as anything I've listened to from them, and they are excellect. I like the duels between Bob and Larry. Bob is in the stratosphere, and Larry is flying high. The whole unit ROCKS, and that's putting it mildly!
