Start of the "Tiki/Luau" lifestyle!! October 16, 2008 Martin Denny was ahead of his time. My father had an 8-track tape of "Quiet Village" and I remember literally wearing the tape out I played it so much..... This evokes a time before electronic music creations where artists/composers had to "use their head" to create sounds unique to them as opposed to using a myriad of pre-programmed electronic creations that are now available since 50 years ago..... An A+++++ album for Exotica!!!!
Martin Denny's albums are cool exotica!!!! May 29, 2008 I rate Martin Denny's albums 5 stars. The music was cool back then and still is today, it's timeless. It transports you back to that period when exotica was very popular in the 50s and 60s, and I guess it's gaining much popularity today, with those who are into the Kon tiki culture. My family has always been extremely proud of the fact, that my uncle Harvey Ragsdale, was Martin Denny's bass player for years, and is on many of Denny's albums. My uncle was a great friend of his, and sadly, he and Martin Denny, have both passed on. Martin Denny was a great band leader, and many people who had the pleasure to personally know Martin Denny, such as my uncle, thought Martin Denny was also a great human being. It's wonderful that Martin Denny's music lives on.
Not Even Close to Original March 12, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This music may be Martin Denney but IS NOT the original Ouiet Village, I have the Original Album and the case it came in, over half the sound tracks are different, and the ones I wanted are not on it. NEVER AGAIN. Capt. Karl A Greig
The best was Exotica, but the rest are great also. December 2, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Hi I'm "a customer" from back in 1999... I was in the process, last year, of FINALLY moving all my LPs to CD....and discovered that they are now actually ON cd....
The CD's are actually better than the lps, I now have a fully digital system, with very high end speakers and audio system....
These are the "graddaddys" of all the present "mood music" and "environmental music"...along with Les Baxter...
Get .....them...... alll.....
'nuff said.
Grows on you. July 10, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was infected by Enchanted Sea in the sixth grade 1972 (blame my parents). It sounds corny today, but it's nostalgic for me. Just pretend you're "back in the day". When I play it my kids grab their stuffed toys and bird puppets, then whenever they hear some tropical critter in the background they squeeze their toys on cue as if they were people in the band "playing" the exotic sounds "live" using real animals.
