Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Think of this long awaited studio album as if it were the first Pretenders record: musical turf that's defined by attitude, lyrical and melodic mastery, and the unexpected...and Chrissie Hynde's voice as you've always known it. "Break Up The Concrete" is an authentic slice of rock Americana, ranging from blistering punk to the most delicate storytelling as told by the queen of rock royalty herself.

2 out of 5 stars What the h-e double hockey sticks is this?   November 21, 2008
Chrissie poo what happened? There are a total of 4 songs that make the grade. The title track, Dont lose faith, Loves a mystery, and the outstanding rocker Rosalee. The Chinese plastic song is unbelievably bad. How this track got on the album and is the opening track is truly a mystery achievement. I still love you and hope you will bear my love child someday.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as I expected...listen to samples first!!   November 20, 2008
I saw Chrissy and the Pretenders perform Boots of Chinese Plastic on the Letterman Show and LOVED it. It brought me back to the days of their earlier recordings. I went out and bought the disc the next day. First song, Boots of Chinese Plastic, loved it! Here we go, great rockin' album. Second song, slow, still great songwriting, press next....my head is getting that twinge it gets when listening to country music. More country. Oh, a great blues tune...but still sounds country-ish. Lots of that peddle steel guitar. Next, next, next....oh, well. Not what I was expecting. I listened to the disc through several times in the car thinking it would grow on me....I have since given it to a friend who loves country.
Now don't get me wrong, the Pretenders are a great band. Love Chrissy! Best female in rock! I wish for the days of their first three albums....

3 out of 5 stars Chrissie can Rock with the Best   November 18, 2008
The Pretenders have not made a great album since "Learning to Crawl" ... maybe it's time to try Rick Rubin.

1 out of 5 stars I wish i liked it more......   November 17, 2008
I a huge fan of her's.......she is one of if not the best female rock artist ever.....but am disapointed by this album which is closer to a country music effort than a rock album.

5 out of 5 stars Age and Treachery will Defeat Youth and Speed!   November 17, 2008
For the ever growing band of ageists out there who continue to proclaim talent diminishes with age, this is your wake up call. Ms. Hynde and this latest compilation of Pretenders let it rip with unapologetic gusto and deliver one of the best ablums of the year. Give it a listen and get an education. You will not be dissappointed.
