| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description When New York Was Irish"" is a captivating anthology of popular Irish button accordionist Terence Winch's work from the last twenty-plus years. It features his best-known compositions with the influential Irish group he co-founded Celtic Thunder (called ""one of the best Irish folk acts in America"" by The Washington Post) and his current band Narrowbacks, such as ""In Praise of the City of Baltimore,"" and ""Hooley with the Herd"". It also includes Winch's best-known tune, ""When New York Was Irish"", a song that has been admired and covered by a host of Irish artists. Named one of ""The Top 100 Irish Americans"" by Irish America magazine, Terence is also a prolific writer, and the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in poetry. His work has been featured on Garrison Keillor's ""The Writer's Almanac"" radio program.

The standard to which all traditional musicians should aspire November 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Terence Winch, the ORIGINAL Celtic Thunder, and the Narrowbacks are the standard to which all traditional musicians should aspire. "When New York Was Irish" includes a bunch of my favorites from Celtic Thunder's previous CDs (Celtic Thunder, In Light of Other Days, and Hard New York Days) as well as new material with the Narrowbacks.
Also, check out Terence's poetry in "The Drift of Things" and "Boy Drinkers" and his stories in "That Special Place." Take your time with each piece and savor them like a Sunday afternoon that you never want to end.
The Best Choice for Irish American Music October 23, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is as good and as authentic as it gets when you're looking for Irish American music--not to mention song lyrics. I've been a fan of Terence Winch's work for a good many years, and this collection shows that he and his musical colleagues (in particular, the REAL Celtic Thunder) have this music in their bloodstream. For a transfusion, get a copy of this album, and try to find copies of Celtic Thunder's three original CDs. You won't regret it.
One of the Best February 29, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
One of the best Irish American bands ever. Terry Winch is a natural song writer. I come back to the cd again and again.
