Amazon.com Cafe Tacuba come straight out of Mexico City with a spicy blend of rock en Espanol, with Jamaican ska/reggae and African-American hip-hop sonic seasonings. And unlike their counterparts, they've managed to keep the critics, record companies, and their fans happy. This CD, which translates as Four Ways, is their first full release since 1999. Lead guitarist/vocalist Elfego Buendia, keyboardist Emmanuel Del Real, bassist Enrique Rangel and guitarist Joselo Rangel--along with R.E.M. and Beck percussionists Victor Indrizio and Joey Waronker--deliver a more raw, stripped-down sound compared to their critically acclaimed recordings Re and Avalancha de Exitos. Their long-time producer Gustavo Santaolalla is at the helm, but on this go- 'round, the quartet also works with producers Dave Fridmann and Andrew Weiss, who both manned the boards for the bands, Ween, Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev. From the high-powered video/single "Eo (el sonidero)" and "Que pasara?" with special guest vocalist Ruben Albarran (a.k.a. Elfego Buendia), to the philosophical "Mediodia," these tracks show that Cafe Tacuba is moving away from their alternative phase into a mature, Steely Dan type of mainstream sound. --Eugene Holley, Jr.

Cafe Acuba es bueno October 17, 2008 I saw this band on TV on the World Music program. They are a latin rock band. The lead singer sounds a little like Cheech, (of Cheech and Chong.) My favorite song on the CD is "Eres" You don't have to speak spanish to like this music.
Es.... March 18, 2008 This album is just a MASTERPIECE. I love it every song is incredible. Eres is just the best song EVER. So much passion and love. This is a MUST buy for everybody not only Tacuba fans.
revolutionary sounds! September 28, 2007 This is such a different album from their previous ones and has a sound of it's own. It's a great road trip CD. Their music is unique and thought provoking. Me encanta!
New direction for Cafe Tacvba July 10, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I own the other Cafe Tacvba albums (with exception of the "Reves/Yo soy") You know, with this band you'll have a diferent taste for every album, which I think is a great thing because they're always innovating with sounds and blending different styles in one cohesive mix. Prove of this is the "Re" album, an excelent mixture of rock, mexican rythms, boleros and even speed metal.
The good news is that this album is still different and innovative: Electronic samples and textures have been added to some tracks, giving a new and fresh sound to the songs of this band (like on "Encantamiento inutil", "Desperte")But we also have the "classic" Tacvba sound in gems like "Tomar el fresco", "Que pasara", and "Eres" and the frenetic "Eo". But my favorite track here is the dreamy "Mediodia".
I only comlain about some "fillers" on this record (last two tracks and "Recuerdo prestado") I could've been better without these tracks, makig "Cuatro caminos" a solid and perfect production.
Just one little thing, this special edition come with a nice cardboard packaging. Hope this information will be helpfull.
Track list and rating: 01. Cero Y Uno 4/5 02. Eo 4/5 03. Mediodia 5/5 04. Que Pasara 4/5 05. Camino Y Vereda 4/5 06. Eres 5/5 07. Soy o Estoy 3/5 08. Encantamiento Inutil 5/5 09. Recuerdo Prestado 2/5 10. Puntos Cardinales 4/5 11. Desperte 5/5 12. Tomar El Fresco 5/5 13. Hoy Es 2/5 14. Hola Adios 1/5
If you're not much in love with spanish rock, listen to the samples and give the album a chance. Cafe Tacvba fans, get a copy, this is a must!
