Immaculately prolific and blatantly ambitious, My Morning Jacket celebrate eight years as a recording band with what many refer to as a death knell: the double live album. Yet it takes but a single listen to declare that the brass neck and bravado pays off for this Kentucky band of longhairs, which released the 21-song epic as a companion piece to their concert DVD. Songwriter and singer Jim James's howling falsetto ricochets through MMJ's backlog of songs, which have been reenergized for the stage by the band's airtight live-show mettle. Dusting off remnants of the first two records like "I Think I'm Going to Hell" and the stunning "The Way That He Sings," then lining them up with the more contemporary "Gideon" and "What a Wonderful Man," MMJ never take their foot off the gas. In fact, rather than getting bogged down in concert-album fashion, Okonokos plays spanking new, almost re-studio recorded. And that means it works both ways: as the next volume in a series for those familiar with My Morning Jacket, or as a compendium primer for a band that never lets up and is always willing to circumvent the rules. --Scott Holter

This is very well recorded. Good selection of material. Sounds good in dts 5.1.

This album is by far the greatest 2 hours of recorded music you can find anywhere. Jim James has the voice of a God, and My Morning Jacket as a band backs that up. If you are ever searching for the greatest album of all time, you have found it. As a long time fan of classic rock; a fan of The Who, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, this album puts them all scrambling for 2nd. Dark Side of The Moon, Tommy, Abbey Road, IV, while amazing, and iconic; have nothing on Okonokos.

4 1/2

This sanctioned and sacred live release should continue to gain significance as the years roll on- its precise attack into the heart of modern American rock is that good. MMJ have fleshed out such a ruggedly compelling warmth in their live sound, even their lesser material here unfurls with pinpoint equal parts intimacy and ecstasy. I'm glad they recorded it before the new album was made.

Based on no other review or any previous record... Okonokos is awesome!
It's easily one of the best live albums ever... After that I did listen to the records and I would rather hear this live show than most all of their studio work...

It IS a great place to start and discover MMJ

Highly Recommended!

The CD is an absolutely necessary buy for any my morning jacket fan. It gives you an insight into just how amazing this band is in concert. I personally have seen them once in person and they are even better in concert than they are on recordings.
