Amazon.com This Seattle-based band was formed from the ashes of the incredibly talented Carissa's Wierd [sic], whose mopey and self-deprecating songs were like some magical and baroque combination of the Magnetic Fields, Cat Power, and Leonard Cohen. Longtime friends of Iron and Wine, few fans in their native Pacific Northwest could understand why Carissa's weren't huge. But they weren't, and after three albums and few folks really caring, they naturally broke up. Band of Horses, led by ultra-charming CW bassist Ben Bridwell, is a remarkably different, though just as radically excellent, brand of indie-pop sulk. These songs are anthems to ambivalence, and Bridwell's lovely high-pitched trill will please any fan of Built to Spill, the Shins, and Modest Mouse. It takes a few listens to sink in, but Everything is transcendent, shimmering, layered, and smartass emo-pop fully ready for stadium saturation. --James Conde

Band of horses rock June 8, 2010 Go Canucks I have had this album for quite some time now and realized its one of my favorites still. I think it might be their break through album and it has alot of good songs on it. Definitely would use this as the starter album by this band.
My Morning Jacket the Second??? June 7, 2010 vw0698 Short and sweet...I think my title says it all...Do yourselves a favor and stick with the original MMJ...
Interesting December 31, 2009 G. Hay (Atlanta, GA USA) My 17 year old son who plays guitar in a seriously hard driving almost metal band has been raving about 'Band of Horses' for a couple years. Given the shows we've seen together.... Metallica, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Kiss, Alter Bridge, Roger Waters, etc., I assumed this would be another cranking rock band. He asked for tickets to see Band of Horses on New Year's Eve in Atlanta and I figured if I was going to see these guys he should burn me a copy of their tunes so I could get a listen before we went. Imagine my surprise when I heard this. Of course he loves 'Explosions In The Sky' as well, so maybe his taste is a lot more varied than I give him credit for......
After several listens to both albums, they're kind of growing on me. Maybe it's me, but I hear some Neil Young influence in some of the songs. And that's not a bad thing. Not that every track is dynamite, a couple of them I just skip over 'cause I don't like them. But then even some of my all time favorite artists lay some stinkers down that aren't worth listening to. This is just some nice pleasant sounding mellow rock that you can either really get into or just have it on in the background. At this point, I've listened to the disc in the car about three times over the last couple days. I don't have any liner notes, so I don't know the song titles. Yet. Again, I don't think it's great or amazing. But it's not bad and easy to listen to.
I've seen a couple comments about how this sounds like 'My Morning Jacket'. I'm sure there were people whining about how 'My Morning Jacket' sounded like someone else before that. It's hard these days to find any band that doesn't at least somewhat remeind you of someone else.
Too many average songs December 25, 2009 Kai Henning Melberg (Halden, Norway) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The funeral is a great song. But, unfortunately, the rest of the songs are average compositions far from the quality of the biggest hit. Everything All the Time
Compulsively listenable August 31, 2009 Louis the Kingsnake (Midwest USA) If you don't know who Band of Horses is, you soon will. They are on the verge of huge hugeness. Nearly every song on Everything All the Time is a gem. The best part of the album is that it seems to get better with each listen. You pick out more things, more hidden instruments and sounds. It is a beautifully rendered gem of an album, one of the few that is universally liked by EVERYONE I know. If you are a fan of good music, you owe it to yourself to get this album. Also, get their follow-up, Cease to Begin, while you're at it.
