Album Description 2006 release from this Australian Hip Hop outfit. Hilltop Hoods have been performing live and writing Hip Hop music for over ten years. On the stage, Hilltop Hoods consisting of MC's Suffa, Pressure and DJ Debris, bring their music alive with their warm-blooded rhymes and electric stage presence Their trademark combination of Jazz influenced beats, solid lyrics, tight flows and a localized viewpoint is why so many people are taking about Hilltop Hoods and why they won't be labeled up-and-coming for much longer. Obese.
Album Details Coming from the Fertile Glades Ofadelaide, the Hilltop Hoods Are Perhaps that Most Universally Respected of all the Australian Hip Hop Crews, Managing to Avoid Much of the In-fight that Comes with Scrounging for Too Few Crumbs of the Music Industry Pie for Far Too Long. As an Album, "Calling" is a Reflective and Almost Melancholy Adventure Exploring the Notion of Hip Hop as a Set of Ideals. Although the Phrase 'keeping it Real' Has Been Relegated to Cliche, the Hilltop Hoods See Hip Hop Not as a Genre, a Set of Elements Or Marketing Tool but as a Framework for Living.

aussie hip hop is happen June 19, 2008 there is a man with a samurai sword on the cover and this sets the tone for the CD. unfortunately this was done better by the wu tang clan 5 years ago and is getting a bit old to have martial arts with hip hop. pressure and suffer are also pictured looking very "STAUNCH" (hmm...just like tornts). they like to dress like the rap crew NWA. musically the album is really diverse and quite long. my head was nodding right at the intro to some cool samples. then the first song TESTIMONIAL YEAR starts up WOW. they only thing they are testing is my patience with a song that is much too long. hill top hoods like to rap about hip hop and how long they have been rapping. a stand-out-track is called DUMB ENOUGH. there is some DJ SCRATCHING in this song. this was played on the radio and i can see why. this is another song that got in the hot 100 because people love it and its funny. thumping bassline and horns are very cool. "ITS A SWAN!" I dont get it but i LAWLED SO HARD at this!. another song that was played on the radio (including ON NOVA!!1!!!!!1) is THE NOSEBLEED SECTION. the nosebleed section means the highest seats in a stadium btw. there is a cool flute sample plus a nice bassline and the horns are cool. this is the BEST oz hip hop EVAR. people love it so much it got played on NOVA and it became the triple j most requested song EVAR. what more can I say? release it as a single, guys! you will be rich! you can also get this for your ringtone. the longest song is THE CERTIFICATE. this song features many rappers that are friends of hill top hoods. i dunno who they are but it has a cool beat with a bassline and horns. cool! after this there is a silly song called HILLTOP HOODS. it is pointless and short so i skipped it. it needed some horns and a bassline! the rest of the songs are very dope as well. the boys have done a great job with the beats and dj scratching. the basslines and horns are really cool. i heard there is also a secret track but it wouldnt play in realplayer program lol sry. this is NOT your average american gangsta rap dominated by bitches, money and cars. the HILL TOP HOODS are rapping about australian things like swans and drinking beer in an original way. it is only a matter of time before these guys get a record deal!!! I recommend this to anyone! 5/5 awesome dope CD best EVAR!
Hill Top Hoods R comin up! November 5, 2006 The second album I have from the hoods(inc The Hard Road) and once more not the slightest bit disappointed. These boys know their stuff! A nice mix of party drunken funk(Nosebleed Section, Dumb enough), easy going music(Tommorrow will do, Laying Blame),tunes that open ya mind(Illusionary lines, Walk On) and with everything else in between and you have an original 5 star album that'll quench ya "hip hop taste buds". If ya like any of the hoods songs or want to expand ya horizons then give this album a go. You'll be impressed!
Don't Know Art But I Know What I Like ... March 18, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am 37. Don't know what hip hop means. Like to think I am up with times. Listen to Triple J (best radio station in the known world). But despite my shortcomings I recognize insight and soul ... and these blokes (Aussie for guys) have it. Witty, lyrical, cool and cutting. Along with the The Herd, they make you feel things matter. 77% of you should get a dose.

With hip-hop being one of my favorite genres I get sick of all the annoying sex oriented thug garbage that American radio stations play non-stop, which is always giving hip-hop a bad name. Fortunatley, there are artists out there like MF Doom, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Gorillaz, Danger Mouse, and the Hilltop Hoods that show how hip-hop is just as much a form of music as any other genre is.
The Hoods' music is jazzy, soulful, and it's quick and witty lyrics flow beautifully. The Hilltop Hoods easily put to shame any mainstream rapper in the states. This group has hardly any recognition in the over here, which is unfortunate since they're truly amazing. Definatley check these guys out if you like hip-hop, or maybe even give them a try if you aren't a fan of the genre. A most excellent album indeed.
I have one thing to say about this CD June 3, 2005 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
