more for less July 19, 2008 I really love this album. I've been putting off buying it because of the $32 cost but then I found it at www.greatbigsea.com for $11.99. Makes me a little disgruntled at amazon.
great newfoundland band July 15, 2003 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
i may be a bit biased in my rating seeing i'm a newfoundlander and great big sea is from newfoundland.but no matter where your from if you listen to this cd i'm sure you'll love it.this is really great music.some of the stand out tracks on this album are mari-mac{which is a fast paste song that really get's your feet tapping},the beautiful ballet fast as i can,the classic old black rum and nothing out of nothing {which is a song many newfoundlanders can relate too}but my personal favorite on this cd is rant and roar{if newfoundland was a country this would proberly be our national anthem, everytime i hear this song it makes me very proud to be a newfoundlander}the only weak track on this cd is buying time .this cd is really awesome and i recommend it to everyone.
BEST GBS CD AVAILABLE June 25, 2003 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the best GBS album out there. To say this is a great party CD would be a vast understatement. For dancing and drinking, there is nothing better. I've visited Newfoundland three times, and I can't imagine a Newfy party without GBS blasting. Mari-Mac is a favorite, but Run Runaway and Billy Peddle are fantastic also. Buy this CD, and wear it out!
Like a Dog Wrapped Round Your Leg (But in a good way) December 9, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Buy this CD. Play it often. Learn all the words to "Mari-Mac" (I dare you). And go see the greatest band in the world in concert. There is no way you will be disappointed. From start to finish, this set is a winner. "Run Runaway" starts the ball rolling and it doesn't stop until track 15. People will recommend this band if you like Irish Rock, but I say if you like music AT ALL you have to love these guys. The original compositions are every bit as good as the re-workings of traditional Irish songs. You will sing, you will dance and you will have as much fun as you can possibly have with you clothes off or on (pants required in public, please). If you own this CD, you should hunt up a copy of "Fire in the Kitchen" produced by Paddy Moloney of the Chieftains which has GBS doing an even better version of "Lukey." Sit back, take a sip of the old black rum, and enjoy.
Number one on my top 5 list of party CDs... October 7, 2002 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Get your close friends together with a case of tasty beverages and put this CD on. :) This is one of Great Big Sea's best CDs, and I have 'em all. You will not be disappointed by this CD if you have one drop of British blood in you.
