Love to dance to this CD December 2, 2008 This is a very good CD. I have heard other music by Mylene Farmer and like them all, but this one has a kind of beat I cannot resist.
I was first attracted to the song Degeneration, which prompted me to buy the album. When I got the CD I immediately found myself drawn to the the songs Je M'Ennuie and Appelle Mon Numero. I wish people in my area had a taste in foreign music. It really gets the body moving =P
Best Pop album in this year October 26, 2008 When i listened the album, i feel Mylene comes back to early years. This album have old elements but new also (in one track she sing the chorus with Moby in english) but this one is more balanced and less dark, more melodic and new sounds. I enjoy all the album, There's no fillers. Maybe it is not the best album of Mylene, but in this year is the best pop album in the world (in french..and english). Madonna is the Queen...of MTV, and Mylene is the Queen..of the real world. Sorry Alizee, you are so far away of the Teacher.
Very good. More up tempo than 'Avant Que l'Ombre...' October 2, 2008 To avoid disappointment, please note that the numerous Amazon listings outside of France for this imported album continues to contain errors.
Amazon part no. ASIN: B001BSH10W as sold by 'Amazon France' is the Limited digipack CD edition which contains the hidden track "Ave Maria" and the "Degenerations" video. This item has Polydor catalog no. 5310125.
There appears to be 2 jewel box CD editions. These do NOT include the "Degeneration" video clip.
The standard jewel box edition containing CD disc 5310833 does not include the hidden track "Ave Maria".
I believe Polydor catalog no. 5310124 is the super jewel box edition distributed in France which may include the hidden track "Ave Maria".
A little bit of rediscovery, a little bit of rehashing September 25, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
On first listening to Points de suture, I couldn't escape the sensation that I had heard several of the songs before. This is not to say that they aren't good songs. They are. But the album doesn't startle or surprise the way that Innamoramento and Avant que l'ombre revealed new things about just what Mylene and Laurent Boutonnat (who writes the music) thought they could get away with - and did! This is a more conventional album - no Little Princes, no iconoclastic virgins, no silly surprises like QI and nothing as sharply put together as "F* them all."
On balance, Points de suture is a pretty good album. At its best, it's quite good. The title track recalls the haunting "Ainsi sois-je," just as the doll stitched together sends one's mind back to the androgynous Mylene doll on the cover of the album by that name. It's just a question of getting past the sense that the music, too, is stitched together from things past.
"Je m'ennuie" and "Appelle mon numero" are catchy little tunes and will likely grown on you quickly. "Paradis inanime," a proper rock song, is a solid point in the album. And "Si j'avais au moins..." is a nice rock ballad. "Reveiller le monde" and "Sextonik," however, leave me thinking back to "Desenchantee" and "Je t'aime melancolie" for reasons I can't quite put my finger on. And I've mentioned the similarities between "Points de suture" and "Ainsi sois-je."
Mylene fans will, of course, want this album. It's not as though she's lost her voice. Those new to Mylene will find a nice voice and reasonably good music behind it. But if you're new to Mylene and looking for something fantastic, better go with Avant que l'ombre.
Worthy Mylene, but not a classic September 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Greetings. This album has some sublime moments, but it is far from her finest work. THAT masterpiece would be the incomparable magnum opus from 1999, __Innamoramento__. This collection does contain 2 songs that are equal to her very, very finest moments, along the lines of Ainsi Soit-Je, Je te Rends ton Amour, Libertine, Je T'aime Melancolie, Regrets, and L'Amour N'est Rien. These two best moments of __Point de Suture__ are the super-catchy, faux-innocent, and joy-inspiring __Appelle mon Numero__ and the gorgeous, haunted and haunting title track, __Point de Suture__, which is even more mesmerizing than Annie Lennox's most private moments. A few other songs are nearly as fantastic, such as Reveiller le Monde, Je M'ennuie, and the first single, Degeneration. The only true horror, and genuinely shocking disappointment is the "duet" with Moby. It is not worth discussion, and is certainly not worthy of inclusion in her opus. His voice is terrible in relation to hers and to the music. What were they thinking? He is a poor David Bowie substitute. Mylene and Laurent are musicians and poets of such a high order, that to put out so few albums, and to take such great care with their collective output, this misstep seems disturbing and unfortunate. Guere de logique. Oh well, Farmer and Boutonnat are without equals, and I absolutely love their universe. Bravo et brava! Neil T of Minneapolis, MN neilbartz@msn.com
