Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com essential recording
With their 1976 album Destroyer, the band's fifth release in two years, Kiss began to expand their fan base by shedding a bit of their edge, taking on a more melodic sound and a less menacing image. The Peter Criss ballad "Beth," written for his wife, is the most sentimental love ballad the group ever recorded, and songs like "Detroit Rock City" and "Shout It Out Loud" had the kind of arena-rock punch that kept subscriptions to the Kiss Army at an all-time high. Despite, or because of, the blatantly commercial direction the band seemed to be heading in, 1976 was the most creatively rewarding period in its lengthy career. In addition to releasing Destroyer, the band pumped out the equally touted album Rock and Roll Over, which included the pounding "Take Me" and the groovin' "Calling Dr. Love." The only finer year was 1978, when the band starred in the classic B-grade flick Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park. --Jon Wiederhorn

4 out of 5 stars CLASSIC ROCK   December 10, 2008
KISS crossed new boundaries with DESTROYER, but not without consequence. They went for a more pop, radio-friendly sound and succeeded at winning over a new set of younger fans, but alienated supporters of their earlier heavy sound. Much to the dismay of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, the commercial success of KISS began here, riding on the enormous wave created by Peter Criss' "Beth." I like the songs just as much as any KISS album, but it is way too short and a bit too anthematic. All this album needed to be perfect was two heavy sounding Ace Frehley tracks to replace the ill-conceived "Great Expectations," but we all know that laid back Ace did click well with the ever-so demanding producer Bob Ezrin. Although I like Beth, it is not what I want to hear when I put in a KISS album. "Detroit Rock City," "King Of The Nighttime World" and "Shout It Out Loud" make up for it though...and "Do You Love Me" is probably my favorite.

Other albums I bought that sound like this are: Sloopjohnd , Love Gun and British Steel

5 out of 5 stars Awesome   September 22, 2008
This is probably my favorite studio album by KISS. While not totally capturing the live show, this is maybe the closest, second maybe only to Dynasty or at least at that level, of their live stuff. There are so many good songs here. It is just a fun romp of an album. Sit back and enjoy.

3 out of 5 stars Do You Love Me....   August 26, 2008

I remember I think it was like the third grade way back in 1977 when I was in a class of kids who liked Kiss. They were blasting "Do You Love Me" from the record which was on a cheesy classroom turntable where they would play "kiddie records". (The teacher wasnt there, I dont know where she was!) All the girls got mad, and when they heard "Do You Love Me?" from that song, one of the girls named Tammy screamed "I Hate Your Guts!!!!" LOL. I'll never forget that.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing   August 6, 2008
An instant classic. In my opinion, this is the CD that got the band going. My favorite on the album, God of Thunder, played through my party almost all night. I highly reccomend this CD for all fans of the hottest band in the world, KISS.

One of the bands most essential albums realesed March of 1976 this album takes a slighty different turn from there first three albums. This album is more complex than three chord songs yet inlcudes some of Kiss's most popular songs, "Detroit Rock City", "Shout It Out Loud", and Beth etc. Some Kiss fans dont like this album i think this album is great though.
