4 out of 5 stars Japan Remaster is MUCH MUCH better than the 'tinny' USA release!!   October 25, 2008
Great overlooked album by DIO - especially for those who like 'fast' Dio.

This review is to recommend the HARD N HEAVY 24 bit remaster release out of Japan. Yes, it is more expensive, but be assured that the remastered recording is VERY FAR SUPERIOR to the current and past US release they are pawning off for $5.00 NEW all over the place.

The US release is a tinny-sounding muffled, distorted, mess while the Hard n' Heavy Japan release (available here on Amazon) returns this recording to what it should have always been. Strong bass, clear cymbals and no muffled Ronnie vocals.

Usually I am not impressed enough by remasters to warrant the upgrade and extra bucks, but DREAM EVIL was a botched recording from the start and this Japan release sounds more like the standard set by the original Holy Diver/Last in Line CD releases.

Well worth the extra money for fans looking to appreciate this recording to the fullest!!!!

1 out of 5 stars PIRATE COPY FROM AMAZON   October 13, 2008

THIS IS AN AWSEOME RELESASE FROM DIO; HOWEVER, MY COPY I BOUGHT FROM AMAZON SQEALS JUST LIKE A CASSETTE TAPE GOING BAD. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A CHEAP BOOTLEG COPIED FROM A BAD CASSETTE. I SHOULD SEND IT TO THE RECORD COMPANY, THEY MIGHT FIND IT INTERESTING.

1 out of 5 stars this junk is classic ?   September 17, 2008

First of all, I should state that I have a high IQ, do not smoke pot, do not worship Satan, don't drink, do not smoke and despise metal. Did I mention that I despise metal? The clientele of this band Dio seems to forget that for music to entertain us, it should be enjoyable and capable of being listened to. I was stuck in a Swedish hostel where some metal head losers put this on the CD/record player.

Aggravating. Not only is it truly awful, it is unbearable, I guarantee any sane person who is forced to listen to this rubbish will want to jump out a window. The lead singer thinks he is the devil and has the corniest art covers including "secret messages" that angered fanatical Christians.

Frankly, it's all very boring. The lyrics are no better, he writes about gnomes, trolls, dark elves and evil forests. It's obvious the guy played D & D (Dungeons & Dragons ) in the early 80's and probably has an oujia board in his closet. His voice is excruciatingly annoying, he whines through all the songs and then there are the corny guitar solos that make me want to puke. On one song they are even bold enough to add keyboards like a bunch of other crap 80's metal bands that didn't know where to go music wise. Most metal heads think this junk is classic but its not worth your time, that is, if you are a truly sane person.

2 out of 5 stars Not Very Good   September 7, 2008
This is not a very good Dio album. Vivian Campbell left/was fired after the Sacred Heart album and Dio's solo work has never been quite the same. Pretty mediocre songwriting throughout and it once again has that horrible high treble mix just like Sacred Heart. This one is strictly for Dio die-hards.

4 out of 5 stars overlooked classic   April 14, 2008
When " Dream Evil " was first released I was very disappointed, maybe it was because Craig goldy's playing was so different than Cambell's, but what the reason was I am not sure anymore. I recently purchased this cd to replace my vinyl copy and I have to say after listening to the cd again after several years I was pleasently surprised. Dio's voice is powerful as always but I was surprised at the strength of the songwriting, and I would recommend this Dio album to any fan of classic heavy metal.
