Editorial Reviews:

"Stories" is the operative word here. The late Harry Chapin penned tales that touched a chord in listeners regardless of their age, background, or truth be told, regardless even of the type of music they normally listened to. Chapin always came across as a tough guy with a heart of gold, a brainy type who wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty--much like the protagonist of "Taxi" (a terrific rendition of which is contained herein). In addition to radio staples like "Cat's in the Cradle," the 1976 recording also sheds light on slightly lesser-known pieces like "Circle" and "Mr. Tanner." Chapin's affable manner shines through the entire album, giving it a disarming quality that's not always present on the studio versions. --David Sprague

3 out of 5 stars Warning: Not the full album   August 21, 2008

I love Harry Chapin and this is a great album, but be warned that this CD version is not the full album. It's missing two cuts: Love is Just Another Word, and She is Always Seventeen. I bought this to replace a cassette tape I have had forever and noticed that the number of tracks didn't match. Then I noticed a disclaimer in very small print that these two songs weren't included "due to time restrictions." Personally, I think this is a bit of a ripoff. To make matters even worse, neither of those songs is available as an MP3 download.

5 out of 5 stars Harry Chapin - Greatest Stories Live   April 22, 2008
For those of you who miss the late, great Harry Chapin, this is a must buy! The original two-record album sounds great on CD!

5 out of 5 stars The greatest...   March 25, 2008
I saw Harry in Ludlow,Vt. in 1977 and laughed my butt off! He was the most personable, loveable act I've ever seen. And his "Greatest Stories Live" album is the closest I've come since to being back there with him and his very gifted brothers, Tom & Steve... not to mention "big" Tom Wallace and the cello player, a lady whose name I've lost over the years. Harry's the man...

5 out of 5 stars He Died Too Young...   February 21, 2008
While in the Navy 30 years ago, I was stationed on a submarine. Harry Chapin made a tour of our boat and put on a concert on the mess deck. He sang to about 30 of us, but he sang as if he was putting on a concert for thousands. I instantly fell in love with Harrys music. I can't imagine a world without 'A Better Place To Be', 'WOLD' and especially 'Cats In The Cradle'. The radio stations would not play his songs because they were too long. That is really sad. No one has ever been able to put a story into song like Harry Chapin. I miss his music.
