1 star is being kind January 9, 2009 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This sounds like modern sound re-mastering gone haywire to me. People who can listen to music this way are lucky I guess - because most of this stuff just hurts my ears. I am no sound expert or audiophile but the things that are being said in some of the 1-3 star reviews make a lot of sense to me. I don't have 5.1 surround right now so my rating is just about the regular stereo remixes. I think they are terrible.
Tremendous...Ignore the one star reviews.... January 9, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
sure... the albums sound better.I think Tony Peter and Mike know "alittle" bit more on how they should sound. Each disc has a 40 minute interview with all bandmembers discussing each track, who wrote what, who contributed that. For that alone its worth buying.I was lucky enough to see the selling england show at the academy of music, the greatest concert I ever saw.Getting back to the music....get out the tresspass LP or CD...play stagnation....then listen to the new one.
Genesis Box set - the Gabriel years. January 6, 2009 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great box set, worth waiting for. Excellent sound and quality dvd's. Full set now !
great music, great remix job January 6, 2009 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
when I bought first releases of Genesis "Trespass" and "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" CD set I was full of expectations about increase of sound quality. Trespass was a low cost production and through vinyl version sounds come out confused, low equalized, unclear. Trespass is really a great album with its acoustic feeling and misterious atmospheres. but original analog sounds recording and mixing was really bad. With first CD version all my expectations was unattended. The same was with The Lamb". the results was worse than original: a complete disaster. This box is the answer for me. Trespass is reborn and all other of four albums are a unique listen experience. great mix job. new arrangements, new equalization and, last but not least, great look (both CD and DVD are painted with original "Charisma label"). Even if you listen through a stereo set the result is astounding. In the DVD you can find Dolby Digital version of albums and some original video clips (there's a great good quality complete Supper's Ready suite video clip). If you love "Gabriel Genesis" jobs like me this set is for you. Sorry for bad english/american (I'm from Italy). Ciao.
Speechless January 2, 2009 2 out of 9 found this review helpful
I couldn't even get through Nursery Cryme. I really tried to enjoy it and from reading the reviews here I guess that some people like the classic music they love to be remixed like this, but I just can't believe anyone who knows these albums could think this sounds good. I see some people even call this superb? Maybe if you had never heard these albums and didn't know how much better they sounded before? OK, maybe some of the early albums weren't the greatest sounding records to begin with but they worked for me, and I'm speechless that they could sound this bad. I am amazed that this has any good reviews if we are talking about sound. I couldn't stand the way Trespass or Nursery Cryme sounded. I don't even want to hear any more.
