| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Award-winning British artist Estelle never got her just desserts for her 2004 debut album The 18th Day. Though the record was a critical success, it failed to make the mainstream splash many had hoped for. Her sophomore project, Shine, seems hell bent on avoiding the same fate. Backed up by a coterie of high profile US starlets--Wyclef Jean, will.i.am, Mark Ronson and Kanye West--Shine has surefire commercial success written all over it; though that's not to say Estelle has sold out. Despite the high-impact American-style production, Shine remains reassuringly British. Estelle's West London twang is as sharp as ever, and even Kanye drops rhymes about "WAGS" and "London Boys" (see single "American Boy"). It's every bit as diverse as its predecessor too, featuring dancehall party jams ("Magnificent", produced by Mark Ronson and featuring Kardinal Offishall), the will.i.am produced "Wait a Minute (Just a Touch)" (which uses a twisted up sample from Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You") to lovers' rock ("Come Over") and, of course, some love ballads too, such as "Substitute Lover", overseen by Wyclef. A solid all-round follow up, Shine should give Estelle the commercial success she deserves. --Danny McKenna
Amazon.com The UK's finest, multiple award-winning artist Estelle is back with a brand new album on a brand new label. Signed by US `Soul Sensation' John Legend to his Homeschool label, the album is a joint venture between Homeschool and Atlantic Records. "I have known John for a while now...we worked on my first album 18th day before he was signed. He featured on "Hey Girl," played piano on "Free," and appeared in the video. As I went to do my second album I asked him to help exec-produce it. As I progressed with it, I left my label and he said he'd sign me and here we are today. We always make great songs together. While I like and listen to a lot of musicians - there aren't many I respect on a level to help me write songs or upgrade/push me as an artist...but John is one of them." The album features collaborations with the likes of Kanye West, Will.I.Am, Wyclef Jean, Mark Ronson, Ceelo, Swizz Beatz who are just some of the `hitmakers' that Estelle has been in the studio with...and of course, John Legend.
Album Description Japanese pressing. Includes two bonus tracks, 'I Wanna Live' & 'Life To Me'. 14 total tracks. Warner. 2008.

Tight album November 14, 2008 Love this album from top to bottom, it is very nice. I love her style and her voice, def recommend this one, dont sleep...
no where near her potential November 7, 2008 if you've heard american boy and come over, you've heard the best this cd has to offer.
her production team did not maximize the strengths of her voice. the instrumentals of the other songs do not compliment her soft, sweet, tone. instead she sounds like a back-up singer, singing lead most of the time. its a shame b/c the potential for enjoyment is there.
she carries lovers rock/dancehall tracks well. she needs rhythmic bass tones to contrast w/ her voice to make it stand out. e.g. her duets w/ legend are nice b/c of his darker voice (even though he slurs alot).
she is hot on track 7 of legend's new cd.
She's making "American Boys" Hot Again! September 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm so loving Estelle's CD, I bought "Shine" on the strength of just the "Pretty Please" video! I then heard "American Boy" with Kanye, and was even more intrigued with Estelle. Looking at her gorgeous brownskinned face and seriously fabulous wardrobe, I saw a kindred fashionista as well as a talented singer/rapper. I had the pleasure of looking at her "1980" video a few hours ago, and now I have to run down her first CD and buy it. I want more Estelle, and I thank John Legend and Kanye West for noticing her genius and allowing this American Girl the chance to hear her fabulousness.
HOT to death!!! September 22, 2008 I simply listened to the sample of the cd and I'm definitely feeling her vibe on EVERY track. Ok, I'm now making it a priority to get this album!
Estelle A Belle September 12, 2008 This Brit chick is on fire. I love the CD. I hate that I almost slept on her stuff, but now my ears are open to her. I can't wait to see what this singer as to offer up next! I recommend this album if you want to jam to nice beats laced with a singing/rapping style.
