4 out of 5 stars Grace is BACK!!   January 6, 2009
What more is there to say? Grace is Back!!! I can't figure out what the chocolate molds of her head on the album cover have to do with anything on the CD, but am glad to see that Grace is still doing things that make us say, "Huh?" All the tracks are pretty mild, nothing overly ambitious or fast. William's Blood is probablay the best, and the video to Corporate Canibal is... well... it's just... Grace. Must see it! BUY THIS CD. Support this unique talent and lets hope she releases more in the future. 19 years is WAY TOO LONG to wait for some Grace Jones!

5 out of 5 stars SO PLEASED YOU ARE BACK MISS JONES!!!   January 6, 2009
I won't leave a very long review...all the other folks here already left stellar ones and are on the same page as I am. So in a nutshell...GET IT. I have missed Grace Jones for 18 years. What a pleasure listening to an adult woman who has such incredible control not only of her voice, but the tight production value of this CD. I never grow weary of it. You've got your reggae, ska, blues, rock, glamrock etc. She has retained her sense of humor (still poking fun at her "diva" status), glorious self esteem and her power as a woman ... and that seductive voice...Yowza! I'm not even gay and she turns me on.

At 60, I think she's transformed into an even more accomplished singer and songwriter than in her younger and wilder years (the bar was already set high). Here is a woman whom Madonna and Britney Spears could never compete with. I hope Miss Jones will not take another 18+ years for the next album. She deserves all the accolades of the music industry (unlike others who collect them undeservedly). "Hurricane" is her most fine tuned work ever, and I hope the general public will finally take notice.

Just click on the "BUY IT NOW".

Presenting Miss Grace Jones.....

5 out of 5 stars Miss Grace manages to find a new, sharper, knife's edge to boldly stand on!   January 3, 2009
Upon hearing this album, it's hard to believe that Grace has been virtually absent from the music scene for 19 years. She has arisen in fine form, fine voice and has given us an album as edgy and thought-provoking as her previous work has proven to be.

She tips her hat to many musical styles that have always been in her soul while recreating them for a new audience. There are plenty of other reviews that call out particular tracks so I will refrain from doing so... with one exception.... "Williams' Blood."

The other reviewers seem to have failed to notice the gospel-tinged similarity to the title track of her album, INSIDE STORY.
"Williams' Blood" is a natural progression from what many thought of at the time as a daring move on her part. She lures us in and holds us up and then gently, let's us down carefully with amazing grace.

This is a category 4 HURRICANE... and worth every minute.

5 out of 5 stars "Is fear the air you breathe?"   January 2, 2009
So asks Grace in "I Love You to Life," one of the nine fantastic, diverse, brilliant tracks on this CD. (I just think it's a great line and speaks to the depth Grace shows here.) Other reviewers here have said it all. I will add this: Recently I came across a TV bio of Pet Shop Boys, and one of them said that their recordings tend to get released, do what they do, and then, 20 years later, become classics. To me that means you are ahead of your time. Grace is like that. Listen to Warm Leatherette and Nightclubbing. 1980? Or 2009? They are works of vision. As is Hurricane. Grace had so much else going on in her heyday (important visual styles, a bed reputation for being late, etc) that clouded the work. Now it is all about the work. What more can we ask for? And for me, the photos in the booklet speak to a woman of great style and e who also has a wicked good sense of humor!

5 out of 5 stars Time to say "Grace!!"   December 30, 2008
I was a very big fan of Grace's back in her heyday, had all her remixes and listened to Slave to the Rhythm until the grooves on the plastic were gone. Then, it seemed Grace herself was gone. I thought she was just going to go out on a high note and rest on her laurels as the icon she was and as Iggy Pop would say, "play scratchy records and enjoy my decline!". But, lo and behold, I saw her on an awards show recently, the first I've seen her in decades and there was mention of a new release. So I checked and came across "Hurricane". It is so aptly titled, it will sweep you up, suck you in and hurl you across the room. This is the most amazing CD I have heard in so long I can't even describe it, I'm still waiting for the goosebumps to disappear. My prediction, you're going to see and hear a LOT more of Grace Jones in the upcoming year. She simply has no competition in this field. Just buy this immediately and let it transport you back or forward to a time so surreal, you cannot believe your ears. Just try and pry it out of my player. An instant classic!
