Album Description
2008 release. The allure of the Hawaiian Islands always captivated Hank Snow. One of his fondest childhood memories was listening to his mother play soothing Hawaiian melodies on an acoustic steel guitar. Although he seldom strayed far from the Maritime Provinces, by 1937 Snow was writing and recording songs about life and love in the picturesque Pacific Isles. In 1951 'Bluebird Island', a Polynesian-flavored duet with Anita Carter, became a #4 hit on Billboard Country charts. Snow's popular 1966 cover of Buddy Knox's 'Hula Love' led to his first Hawaiian album, Snow In Hawaii. Featuring background vocals by Tompall and the Glaser Brothers, the album was one of the singer's personal favorites. This Bear Family reissues augments the original LP with tracks from the every stage of Snow's seven-decade career, including two early Canadian sides and a recut of 'Hula Love' that became his final solo vocal recording for RCA Victor. 28 tracks.
