Oh the Incomparable Fairuz! November 13, 2008

If you are looking to expand your music collection into Arabic music, this is a good place to start. Fairuz is a Lebanese Diva who has been extremely poplular in the Arab world since the 60's. She has had several songwriters during her career, each of which had a wide variety of styles to offer. She goes from Doumbek driven accelerated Belly dance style music to mellow 60's styles, to disco-ey 70's style, to Bossa Nova, to Arabic Lounge and then some. Everything from excited to happy to bittersweet to detached. This album is a compendium of some of Fairuz' greatest songs on one disc.She is extremely talented and on par with great Singers like Sade and Modonna. The different phases of her illustrius career are captured. This is also AUTHENTIC Arabic music,
it's not that coporate whitewashed pop crap that is a totally westernized sound with arabic lyrics. Give it a listen, it'll expand your mind.
