Album Description 2008 digitally remastered two-fer from the ever-smiling pop duo featuring two albums on one shiny disc. Winning Combination and Goin' Coconuts (the soundtrack to their less-than-stellar motion picture of the same name) were both released in 1978. Includes the American hit singles '(You're My) Soul And Inspiration' and 'On The Shelf', both of which hit #38. Like all of the Osmonds-related reissues, this features original album artwork, pictures of related singles sleeves and great, detailed liner notes by Phil Hendriks. 7Ts.

love Donny and Marie November 1, 2008 i had these 2 albums on cassette that were getting to be very poor listening quality; so i'm very happy to have them both on 1 CD; these are great songs and a shame that these albums were more or less overlooked for the duo
Amazing September 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Here are the last two albums recorded by Donny and Marie on one brilliant cd. I was a huge fan of Donny and Marie throughout their career (and still today.) WINING COMBINATION was my favorite of all the Donny and Marie releases. It was released in 1977 and I was 16. I found this album to have a more mature pop/r@b tinged sound. Vocals by both are amazing as they got a little older. I love all the tracks here. Beginning with the title track the musical party never lets up. Highlights for me are WINNING COMBINATION, BEST OF ME, I WANT TO GIVE YOU MY EVERYTHING and I WANT TO BE IN YOUR WORLD. Also, the solo tracks by each are brilliant - Marie with ANGEL LOVE and Donny with YOU REMIND ME. With this album I wanted them to sing together forever,. I watched their television show religiously every Friday night and saw them live in concert over and over. I loved Donny and Marie.
Sadly, their last release together was GOIN' COCONUTS. It was a partial soundtrack to a film they released at that time. Some of the songs are from the movie but many aren't. It was a very good album. ON THE SHELF was a disco wonder and other great tracks are DON'T PLAY WITH THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU, GIMME SOME TIME and YOU NEVER CAN TELL.
This was the end to a very unique time in history. The Donny and Marie Show was the last truly successful variety show. Both Donny and Marie went on to succesful careers. Marie did Broadway and had a hugely succesful solo country career Donny also went on to success and now they are together again for a lengthy reunion in Las Vegas.
As with all the other two albums on one cd, this cd sounds amazing with the dital remastering and the liner notes are full of info. It is such a gift to have all the Donny and Marie albums remastered on cd. It is a true testament that quality music will always live on. Even if it was teeny bopper pop, it is very entertaing even to this day.
I can now relive my youth over and over.
Sounds soooo good!!! August 31, 2008 I am so glad that these albums have finally been released to CD. It sounds so good to hear these songs again. I may not be as elegant as some in their reviews of this cd but I just think that most of the songs are fantastic. I think that their voices sound good separately or together and of course, some of the songs are cheesy, but we are talking about the 70's. I think that this cd is really great. The only thing that I found wrong was that the last few songs on my cd are listed incorrectly on the cover. Other than that, I think the cover is good, the sound is good and so are Donny and Marie.
Great to have. August 26, 2008 It was just so much fun to have some of these recordings back. I lost all my record albums in Hurricane Katrina, so its great to have these memories back. It brings a smile to my face. It's also fun to sing along. I still remember most of the words. Deb.
Glad I Bought This! August 17, 2008 I don't think I'll buy the other Donny & Marie albums now available on CD, but I've been trying to get "On The Shelf" for a while. "Winning Combination" and "Goin'Coconuts" were my favorite D&M albums, so buying this CD seemed like a good idea. It was! I STILL don't like "You Never Can Tell," but I had forgotten how good these albums are! I have no regrets about this purchase.
Unlike the reviewer who says the songs have been changed, I didn't hear a difference. There is a MAJOR improvement in the sound quality over that of the LP's, so maybe that is what the reviewer is referring to. The sound is now crystal clear.
