The strategy sessions over how to present Blake Lewis's post-American Idol debut must have been excruciating, as label-types scratched their heads, wondering: Is it possible to market a disc full of beat-boxing? If not, would the world warm to Blake Lewis, pop charmer? Or Blake Lewis, balladeer? The safest bet seems to have been to build a better post-prime time set by way of experimentation. Audio Day Dream unfolds much the way late-season American Idol shows do: It sets Lewis on a lot of platforms and lets him play up his charm, if not always his straight-outta-the-'80s musical predilections. Partially the brainchild of producer Ryan Tedder (One Republic), "Break Anotha" is pure beat-box Blake and, as such, it's demonically catchy. The same can be said for hip-hop and electro-tinged numbers such as "She's Makin' Me Lose It" and "Gots to Get To Her." Stabs at sentimentality surface, and they're not bad: "I Got U" may very well get you, if you like soft pop stylized with a nod in Adam Levine's direction. Overall, ADD demonstrates why Lewis blazed his way into AI's final round: He's out there, sure, but he's willing to reel it in enough to keep it real for the masses. -Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Great Debut album from Idol.   October 29, 2008
One of my favorite Cd's to come from any american idol PERIOD. Its a must have idol collection item, and Blake Lewis shows off his amazing vocals and talent. I highly recommend to all those interested in electronic type sounding music.

5 out of 5 stars Unique Artist and Fantastic Debut Album!   October 3, 2008

I was a big fan of Blake's style on American Idol and couldn't wait for his debut album to come out. It's everything I had thought it would be. Very unique and catchy, great sounds and some of the best lyrics I have ever heard.

I read recently that his record company dropped him. Are they insane? Maybe he didn't sell because he is unique. I guess the world would rather have Miley's and Jonas brothers. In other words, talentless people who couldn't hold a note to Blake. Literally.

I can't wait for your next album Blake!

5 out of 5 stars Way to go Blake!   September 24, 2008

I was not a close follower of American Idol...matter of fact a friend gave the CD to my son (10 yrs) because his kids loved him on idol.
Already a fan of TobyMac...I find some of the sound remeniscent of them..."She's making me lose it" is a fun danceable tune...There's a quirky mix of sounds in my opinion--and I LOVE that it is lyrically garbage-free...

5 out of 5 stars More than bubble gum music   August 21, 2008

The music genre listed for Blake's CD is Teen Rock. I disagree. With everything that Blake does musically, he pushes the envelope blending jazz, rock, electronic, house and many other musical styles. Your average Teeny Bopper can't really appreciate the levels of sophistication that Blake delivers in his music.

His record label is making a serious mistake marketing him in the same bucket as that Hannah Montana flavor of the day.

The only weakness in his work is where he borrows a little to closely from the melody lines of a song called "Putting On The Ritz". I don't think that proper credit was given to the original composer. If he chose a more obscure song; it might not be as much as an issue. But "Putting On The Ritz" is a feature song in Mel Brooks' movie and Broadway musical "Young Frankenstein". For his first post American Idol CD this was a real faux pas. (trans. bad move).
