| Editorial Reviews:
Album Description To commemorate the 90th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein's birth, and the 50th anniversary of his appointment as music director of the New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall and the NY Phil will present a festival of 50 events throughout New York from September through December. In cooperation with Carnegie Hall and the NY Phil, DG has created this new, 2-CD compilation featuring Bernstein as both composer and conductor, drawn from his extensive DG discography. This set is a wonderful souvenir of this festival, and also a fitting tribute to one of America's most talented and widely known musicians. The compilation highlights the variety and magnitude of his work, both on the podium and as a composer. This set features brilliant performances by Leonard Bernstein and also highlights many of his collaborations. Included are numerous performances with the New York Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, and Los Angeles Philharmonic as well as performances by Mstislav Rostropovich, Frederica von Stade, Thomas Hampson and others.
