Amazon.com AUSTRALIA'S ALL TIME TOP SELLING FEMALE VOCALIST 8 NUMBER ONE AUSTRALIAN SINGLES & 3.5 MILLON IN SCANS WORLDWIDE At twenty-two Delta Goodrem has already achieved success way beyond her years. Having released two CD's - Innocent Eyes (2003) and Mistaken Identity (2004) which spawned a quick succession of hit singles on the Australian and international charts (most notably topping the charts in the UK and Japan) Delta is now poised to match her international success in the US with the release of Delta. Delta is a collection of twelve 'songs' - in the truest sense of the word - dealing with life, love, and relationships, reflecting both her own life and those of the people around her. The music on Delta was made with the assistance of a world-class collection of producers that include John Shanks (Kelly Clarkson), Marius DeVries (Madonna, U2) and Steve Kipner's team (Christina Aguilera, Natasha Bedingfield) and noticeably showcases Delta's own work as a talented songwriter and performer. Delta is very proud of this new album and feels it's a great representation of where and who she is at the moment, "Everything in front of me is super-exciting, and I'm just looking forward to people hearing my music." Album Description US version includes a previous hit of hers 'Born to Try' in favor of the International track, 'The Guardian'. Third full length album from Australia's Pop princess, following up two multiplatinum smash hits before it. The sessions were recorded by a variety of world-class producers and writers that included John Shanks (Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys), Stuart Crichton (Sugababes, Kylie Minogue), Marius DeVries (Rufus Wainwright, Madonna, U2), Steve Mac (Westlife, Boyzone) and Steve Kipner (Christina Aguilera, Natasha Bedingfield). Goodrem's musical progression on this outing incorporates electronic elements and reggae beats, stretching her stylistic prowess. Delta marks the return of a unique and talented artist with renewed vitality and energy. 12 tracks including the single 'In This Life'. Columbia.

average October 6, 2008 I received the CD in an aqequate time frame. However, the CD was less than I expected. Probably just personal preference, but the only song I really like on the album is the radio hit.

Not only do I love every sample of this cd, I think it does not need any other production assists (ie Timbaland, etc). The music and lyrics are beautiful just the way they are. To have this creative ability at 23 is amazing!
Talented artist but a tad boring September 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Delta Goodrem, like Kylie Minogue before her, got her start as an actress on the long-running Aussie soap, Neighbours. Her first CD was released in Australia in 2003 and became a huge smash - yielding 5 #1 singles and going 14 times platinum (which in Australia equals around 1 million CDs). She released her second CD in 2004, giving her two more #1 hits and selling around 250,000 copies. In other words, she's big news in Australia. Because of this success, her record company is finally releasing one of her CDs in America - 2007's "Delta." Unfortunately, "Delta" did a bit poorer in Australia than did her prior CDs, with only two of the singles making the Top 10.
I knew of Delta Goodrem before I received this CD, but I hadn't heard much of her music, so I can't say how "Delta" compares to her first two CDs. Overall, "Delta" is a solid CD filled with adult-contemporary leaning songs. Her style reminds me of Vanessa Carleton - piano-driven, singer-songwriter type of music. Delta co-wrote most of the songs, she has a nice voice, and the CD is a pleasant listen. Many of the songs are autobiographical; for example, "God Laughs" seems inspired by her bout with cancer when she was just 18-years-old. Unfortunately, most of the songs, while competent, are fairly generic sounding, and Delta's overall style seems derivative of other singers. When I listen to the CD, I often have thoughts such as, "That section sounds like Alanis Morrisette" or some other female singer-songwriter. She's clearly talented, but this set of songs just doesn't seem like the ideal material to introduce her to a larger audience. Ultimately, "Delta" is solid pop music but unlikely to lead to a U.S. breakthrough or be recalled in the future -- it's just a tad boring.
Amazing Talent September 24, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was first introduced to Delta Goodrem while living in Northern Ireland back in 2004. Immediately, I was shocked at the amazing talent from such a young woman. It's rare to find someone with such a strong voice that doesn't shatter glass with a super-high pitch. Combine that with honest lyrics and it was obvious why Delta was a huge success in the U.K.
Fast forward to 2008, and I'm delighted to find that Delta has released her most recent album here in the U.S. It's obvious that this record was meant for American consumption; yet, this does not detract from it's beauty. Initially, I was like some of the other reviewers, feeling like I'd been let down. But upon listening to it more, I find that I've got several of these songs stuck in my head, and I don't mind at all.
Some highlights from the album:
'Born to Try': This was Delta's first Australian single back in 2003, and I'm thrilled to find it here. The song is about finding yourself and realizing what you were meant to do in life - something we can relate to, regardless of age.
'Brave Face': Since she recorded the song 'Almost Here' with pop sensation Brian McFadden in 2004, Delta has been under scrutiny for her relationship with the Irish star. In this tune, she takes out what may be her frustrations of dealing with the paparazzi and the media, albeit in a very uplifting voice.
'In This Life': The album's first single is, without a doubt, it's finest song. The constant piano and catchy lyrics are easy to sing along to, and the beat is something that draws you in.
I've heard Delta Goodrem compared to a young Celine Dion, and I find that, to a certain extent, I agree. Their vocal ranges are similar, and Delta's music is certainly similar to what Celine has been releasing as of late. However, considering that Delta herself is a songwriter and co-wrote nearly every tune on the album, there is a definite difference. In addition, the 23-year old Aussie seems to have more innocence and honestly than I've heard from Dion in quite some time.
Looking for a fresh voice that hasn't been over-played on American airwaves? Try Delta Goodrem. There's a reason she took Australia by storm.
The makings of a star September 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
One can conclude from watching tv and video today that beauty and a reasonable voice form the the ingredients for success. Yet, if one wants to have longevity, the music must also form the soundtrack to our lives.
Listening to this album, one can conclude that Delta Goodrem has a great voice. If you look at her on youtube, you can see that she has beauty, and some charisma and presence. I like the songs. The lyrics are clever but not too clever. As a guy the song about her running with her high heels on I could not relate to, but still it's interesting imagery. The song about her shedding her clothes I could really relate to, and the imagery is even more fascinating.
She has all the makings of a great international star except for two things. Her songwriting skills need to develop a little emotional depth. There is a little spark missing that could transport the listener from the ordinary to 'I remember where I was and how I felt when I first heard that song by Delta Goodrem.'
My recommendation would be for her to work with people who have the quality she is missing. I know Australia has great songwriting talent, because I have heard some of it. Work with a lesser known artist who has great songs, and even use their songs. If you have two or three great songs, and the remainder good, you have a great album.
On this album, I liked the two songs I mentioned above and Believe Again the best.
