| Editorial Reviews:
Album Description Canzonen und Tnze des Frhbarock (Early Baroque Canzonas and Dances) came from Italy: around 1600 Venice was one of the main centres where the development of European art music was being fostered. Composers in Venice had a preference for cultivating an ornamentation of both vocal and instrumental melodies and Giovanni Bassano, who worked at the San Marco Cathedral, wrote important textbooks about this musical practice. Bassano wrote the work Ricercata Ottava featured on the newly-released CD. The recording's framework is made up of canzonas written by Angelo Berardi, a Catholic priest. The two-part version of the madrigal Vestiva i colli, one of the most frequently arranged madrigals of its day. is one example of the two ornamented vocal works written by Bartolomeo de Selma y Salaverde. Canzonen und Tnze des Frhbarock was recorded in 1999 by four renowned soloists who devote their attentions to early music: Susanne Ehrhardt (recorders), Angelika Oertel (lute), Christian Beuse (bassoon, dulcian) and Klaus Eichhorn (organ, harpsichord) performed on period instruments, and replicas like Ganassi recorders and a dulcian. NCA. 2008.
